Fans and racers alike give Road America high praise for having the best track food. Since its early days, Road America has worked with local non-profit groups to operate concession stands as a fundraising vehicle while supporting the local community. Their dedication to providing mouth-watering treats at ridiculously low allows racers and fans the chance to enjoy all the best that Road America has to offer.

Racers return each year with fresh grilled bratwurst on their minds. And it’s certainly not uncommon for folks to make their way around the track hitting all their favorite concession stands for traditional favorites and comfort food with a unique twist. In all, Road America has 14 concessions stands throughout the facility offering a variety of snacks and beverages to satisfy. Many attendees make it a point to check out several different concessions stands and try something new like the walking taco, TKA burger, homemade ice cream sandwiches or traditional favorites such as the fresh roasted corn on the cob and root beer floats.

We took to the SCCA Official Members Facebook group last month to find out what foods your fellow members recommend and, it was no surprise that we saw some trends. Here’s a breakdown of some of the top places to visit and what Road America trackside treats your fellow SCCA members suggest you try along the way.

Gear Box: The most SCCA-member recommended concession stand at Road America, you’ll find Gear Box along the Midway. Their famous and most-often recommended food choice by members—the Egger Brat—is an absolute must-try. Their RGPs (Really Good Potatoes), waffle fries, corn and cheese curds also come highly recommended. You can also grab made-to-order omelets, a signature T.K.A. sandwiches and the ever-popular Gearbox Melt here. Stop by for some good eats and enjoy views of Turns 5 and 14 from the large patio and grass bench seating. 

St. John the Baptist (SJB): The second-most SCCA-member recommended concession stand, you’ll find SJB in the Competition Paddock. They’ve served Road America racers and fans since the track opened in 1955 and their menu features a wide variety of food options. Member favorites include their Brats, their famous German potato salad and their soft-serve ice cream, but their well-rounded menu also features ribeye steak sandwiches, veggie wraps and vegan burgers. And don’t forget dessert—fresh baked pies with soft serve ice cream and homemade ice cream cookie sandwiches make this a great place to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Antoinette’s: Featuring fresh breakfast items like breakfast burritos, Antoinette’s has two locations — one outside of Turn 3 and the other by the VIP Tower. Be sure to check out a county fair favorite for lunch, Antoinette’s Famous Mac & Cheese, or enjoy a delicious burger, brat, chicken sandwich or tacos. Don’t forget sides like hand-rolled wonton mozzarella sticks and cheese curds. They even serve cocktails like the Wisconsin Original Brandy Old Fashioned and the Race Fuel!

Los Amigos: You’ll find Los Amigos at Turn 1. This is a perfect place to go for a refreshing cocktail and bite to eat while the kids enjoy the Family Fun Zone, or watch the cars from the grandstand as they go through Turn 1. They’ve got a variety of liquors, beer and wine and their food menu includes all the Mexican cuisine staples like tacos, chips and salsa along with a smattering of trackside staples like Johnsonville brats, juicy burgers, chicken sandwiches and fries.

Plymouth Optimists: Turn 6 is where Road America visitors can experience delicious steak sandwiches, hot pretzels or nachos with cheese, as well as a selection of 10 different beers.

Perl’s on the Hill: Located outside of Turn 7 and Hurry Downs, this is the place to be for an elevated view of the action through Turns 7 and 8. Offering comfort track food, the staff at Perl’s on the Hill ensure patrons are well fed above while enjoying racing below.

Gear Box II: Featuring the famous Egger sandwiches and all-you-can-each pancakes, Gear Box II sits by the Carousel and kart track. Wood-fired pulled pork and beef brisket, plus the famous Gearbox Melt sandwich can be found here.

Elkhart Lake Lions: For a unique taste treat, head to the hill overlooking Turns 5 and 13 for a visit to the Elkhart Lake Lions stand for a 1/3 lb. schnitzel burger sandwich, topped off with a slice of pepper jack cheese, and a side of their highly-recommended fresh corn on the cob.
