SCCA National Convention and Autocross

Sure, the 2019 Sports Car Club of America® National Convention -- which officially begins the Club’s yearlong celebration of its 75th Diamond Anniversary -- will have lots of engaging educational presentations. But a Club that focuses on having #funwithcars needs to also have some fun with real cars during its National Convention, right?

To fill this need, SCCA’s Las Vegas Region will again hold an autocross Sunday, Jan. 20, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Cost to compete is only $45, and an open-face loaner helmet can be rented for $5. Temporary numbers and blue masking tape will be provided for guests. The event will have two sessions, morning and afternoon, and participants may run in only the morning provided they also work during that session. For additional information or to register for the autocross, click here.

Another way to embrace the thrill of competition during National Convention is to join in on the 2nd running of SCCA’s Pinewood Derby, which takes place Thursday, Jan. 17, after the Welcome Party at South Point Hotel and Casino. Compete in either BSA Spec with your classic, by-the-book derby car, or try the Unlimited class where anything that can get through a TSA checkpoint is allowed! And to make things interesting, a handful of free entries to the Las Vegas Region’s autocross will be awarded during the Pinewood Derby competition!

Friendly competition, fun social events and networking opportunities all combine to make National Convention a “can’t miss” event. Convention registration is now open, and a block of rooms at South Point Hotel and Casino have been set aside for SCCA National Convention attendees. Guests can book a stay by contacting the hotel’s reservations department directly at 866-791-7626 or visit the hotel’s reservation webpage.

In order to obtain the special group rate, guests need to identify themselves as attendees of the SCCA National Convention or supply the group code SCC2019, which will entitle a rate of $75.00/night midweek and $120.00/night during the weekend with no resort fee.  However, some additional fees and taxes may apply.

The block of rooms for convention attendees will be held until December 25, 2018. So, don’t delay in making reservations.  The hotel requires a first night’s deposit of room and tax, per room, to guarantee individual reservations, and a credit card will be charged for the first night’s room and tax.  Guaranteed reservations will be held until 6:00 a.m. the following date.
