TOPEKA, Kan. (July 3, 2017) -- The Sports Car Club of America® confirms the passing of driver Mel Shaw, 70, of Voorhees, New Jersey, during an event Sunday at Brainerd International Raceway in Minnesota.

“My deepest, deepest sympathies go out to Mel’s family and friends,” said Mike Cobb, SCCA President and CEO.  “To all who are close to Mel, please know every member of this Club is here to provide support in any way possible. You are part of our family, and we are your family.”

A member of the SCCA’s South Jersey Region, Shaw was competing in a Club Road Racing GT-2 event when the incident occurred at Turn 3 of Brainerd Int’l Raceway. More information will be released as it becomes available.
