SCCA Bracket Enduro Slated for July at Iowa Speedway

TOPEKA, Kan. (June 29, 2017) -- An SCCA® Bracket Enduro event will take place July 15-16 at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa -- located about 30 minutes east of Des Moines.  This will be a three-hour Enduro plus Sprint Races for two-driver teams.  The entry cost is only $300 per team.

SCCA Bracket Enduros are short endurance events created to give SCCA regions and racers an easy-access format which focuses on the pure enjoyment of racing instead of the ultimate prep level for driver and car. To meet this goal, SCCA Bracket Enduros utilize a less restrictive rule set and a unique scoring method to balance the field through lap time allowances, or “brackets” which make up classes.

A unique timing system is utilized at Bracket Enduros that allows competitors to compete in various classes without cars being prepared to any particular class. Based on what teams feel their lap times should be, they can set a goal for the race pace they feel they can maintain. There is an Open Class, as well as three different Bracket Time Classes.

Vehicles are limited to production-based cars with a performance level equal or less than Improved Touring R, E Production, GT3 or Touring 3 classes in SCCA Club Racing. Spec Racer Fords may also participate. Teams have a variety of options, including tire choice and car preparation, to run within their target times. With this format, SCCA Bracket Enduro events enable teams to be competitive across a wide range of driver experience, skill and vehicle performance.

Cars need to meet SCCA Club Racing safety standards, but do not need to have an SCCA logbook. Those without will need to be inspected to make sure they meet minimum safety standards.  But generally speaking, there are no illegal cars.

Other Bracket Enduro events planned for 2017 include:
July 22-23, Sebring Int’l Raceway "Club Course" -  Sebring, FL: Two 3.5-hour races.
August 27, Autobahn Country Club - Joliet, IL: 4-hour race.
October 8, Iowa Speedway -
Newton, IA: 3-hour race.
October 21-21, Blackhawk Farms Raceway - South Beloit, IL: 3-hour race.

Bracket Enduros are open to either full or weekend SCCA members, and no cumbersome license paperwork is required.  SCCA Club Racing Experience rules guide Bracket Enduro events.  While there is legitimate, wheel-to-wheel racing, the competition itself is designed to be less aggressive than traditional Club Racing, which makes it a perfect entry point for those looking to get more involved in motorsports.

No doctor’s physical or racing license is required to take part in a Bracket Enduro. Drivers must only have an SCCA Racing Experience Participation Log, which is handed out at the event by Stewards or Registrars. Plus, Bracket Enduros can be used as a Club Racing License opportunity.  The Track Participation Logbook sign-off procedure deployed at Bracket Enduros can be used to satisfy SCCA Drivers School requirements even for those who have not yet obtained a Novice Book.
