Second Annual SCCA Runoffs 5K Run

Runners … start your engines!!!  Sports Car Club of America® announced today that the second annual SCCA® Runoffs 5K and Checkered Flag Dash will happen Saturday evening, Sept. 30, at the 2017 SCCA National Championship Runoffs® taking place at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

While course details are still being worked out, the green flag will be waved at 6:30 p.m., sending the runners on their 3.1-mile quest for the checkers. The one-mile Checkered Flag Dash fun run will precede the 5K at 6:00 p.m.

In support of September’s Childhood Cancer Awareness month, all proceeds from the event will benefit Maxton’s Fight and Riley Children’s Health, located in Indianapolis.

“After raising over $2,200 for children’s charities last year, we’re thrilled to bring the 2nd Annual Runoffs 5K and Checkered Flag Dash to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway," said SCCA Road Racing Director Deanna Flanagan. "I love that this event brings our SCCA members, Runoffs fans and the local community together for a great cause and a little exercise. It’s a fun way for everyone to get on the track and experience the Speedway.”

To continue the excitement from the inaugural year, this year's installment of the SCCA Runoffs 5K has even more support from motorsports-based sponsors. Door prizes will be drawn for at the finish party, including a free set of Hoosier Racing tires, a set of Goodyear Racing tires, brake pads from Hawk Performance, and more!

"When planning the event for 2017, the initial thought was ‘how can we make this better than the inaugural year,’" 5K Race Director and SCCA club racer Jason Stine said.  "We asked for feedback from all our participants last fall, and have rolled that into what should be an even better event this year. So, stay tuned to the SCCA website for an exciting announcement about a new door prize this year! I know I'll be envious of the winner."

Registration for the event is now open online here. Discounted entry is available for teams of three or more. Contact Race Director Jason Stine at sccarunoffs5k@gmail.com for details.
