This year the El Toro Pr…. Wow, well I guess this was going to happen eventually. After years of slow consumption of the runways, El Toro is no longer has a large enough pad to host a ProSolo. So, welcome back to Fontana, California! Just 47 miles east of Los Angeles, Fontana is located in the Inland Empire and accessible by the 10, 210, and 15 freeways. Here’s why you should register now for the Fontana ProSolo scheduled for March 31 – April 2, 2017.
- The last year a ProSolo was hosted at AutoClub Speedway in Fontana was in 2006, and featured great racing in wet weather. I expect this year to provide the same great racing we have had in recent years with a more interesting surface than El Toro. The back lot at AutoClub Speedway is neither flat nor level, offering varying stages of grip which should make for a fun but challenging event.
- This year’s course will be designed primarily by Jon
Lugod and will make the most out of the space. “Expect something challenging and dynamic,”Lugod says. On the west coast, there isn’t a ProSolo quite like this one. The courses will be mirrored, of course, but I’m betting they will drive much different than each other. This will be a great event to sharpen up your skills of finding the limit for every corner and transition. - But what about when you are not racing? The nearby Ontario Mills Mall is the largest outlet mall in California and offers anything you forgot to pack before you left at discount prices. If you don’t fancy anything in their food court, there is the west coast favorite In-and-Out Burger across the street. Or if you want something more upscale, check out Victoria Gardens Mall.
- We mention it every year, but you are going to Disneyland, right? Chances are you’ll bump into quite a few national champions warming up on the tea cups, taking selfie’s on space mountain, or getting chauffeured on the Cars Land ride. With all the changes coming to the park for Star Wars Land, you’ll want to enjoy your favorite Tomorrow Land rides while you still can.
- Just a short drive down the 210 freeway is the city of Pasadena, home of the Rose Parade and filled with great shops, restaurants, and museums. Everything is pretty much off Colorado St., with plentiful parking in the public garages. The Norton Simon Museum has some great classic artwork by Manet, Monet, Renoir, Degas, Picasso, Matisse, and the list goes on. Check out this map that has parking, tasty eats, and shops.
