Nicholas Chu Earns 2016 Solo Rookie of the Year Honors

TOPEKA, Kan. (February 22, 2017) – In just his fourth year of autocross, Nicholas Chu stepped into a Street Touring R Honda S2000 and claimed 2nd place in the highly-competitive STR class at the Tire Rack SCCA Solo® Nationals, in a car he’d only driven twice. In light of this achievement, he has been awarded the 2016 Solo Rookie of the Year Honors.

Nick gained experience in a Street Touring Sport Honda CRX and E Street Mazda Miata with his local VCMC Motorsport Club, based out of New Westminster, British Columbia. In his first four years of autocross, Nick has competed at the Packwood Tire Rack Solo National Tour three times, trophying twice. He is heavily involved in his local club, volunteering his time as an executive and novice instructor.

When asked what he attributes his success to, Chu said, “I love chasing that perfect lap that is always out of reach.” As far as advice for others, “Be open to change and experiment, actively practice it without regards to time.”

“I'd like to thank my wife, Brooke for being supportive of me all year.  She was 8 months pregnant with our son Sebastian when I left for Nationals. I'd also like to thank Dean Chen for letting me drive his amazing car, VCMC, and all the people who've had a part in my experience.”

Previous Rookies of the Year include Mark Daddio, Mike Maier, Bryan Heitkotter, Andrew Pallotta, and 2015 winner Tamra Hunt, all National Championship contenders each and every year at the Tire Rack Solo Nationals.
