SCCA Starting Line Program Spreads Wings in 2017

Concept Expands to Encompass Autocross, RallyCross and Track Night in America

TOPEKA, Kan. (Jan. 31, 2017) -- The Tire Rack SCCA® Starting Line program, which has been in existence since 2014 and helped introduce more than 1,200 people to the sport of autocross, will be expanded in 2017 to include basic instruction for RallyCross® and Track Night in America® Driven by Tire Rack activities.

Heyward Wagner, Director of Experiential Programs, said the success of Starting Line when it comes to autocross led to this year’s development of similar instructional coursework centered around DirtFish RallyCross National Challenge events and select Track Night in America dates.

“The Starting Line program has proven a great way for automotive enthusiasts to get a facilitated introduction to performance driving and guided entry into the world of fun with cars through the SCCA,” Wagner said.  “The concept of Starting Line will remain the same this year, but we’ve designed new coursework to specifically engage newcomers interested in RallyCross or track events.”

The $325 fee per Starting Line participant includes coaching, SCCA membership, subscriptions to SportsCar and Grassroots Motorsports Magazines, and entry to an SCCA autocross, RallyCross or Track Night in America event.  A schedule of Starting Line dates across the three disciplines will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Tire Rack Starting Line Autocross school is a full-day program that introduces drivers to key concepts necessary to understand vehicle dynamics.  While the focus is on autocross, participants develop performance driving skills while working with professional driving instructors.  Starting Line RallyCross schools are similar, but focus more on the different techniques drivers need to do well on dirt rather than asphalt, as well as guidance on RallyCross rules, car classes and vehicle preparation.

Track Night in America Driven by Tire Rack Starting Line sessions will be held the day of select Track Night events and give drivers an enhanced experience that includes track-inspired car control activities with specialized instructors.
