2016 Tire Rack DC Championship Tour: Tune-In

This weekend's Championship Tour in Washington, DC is the fourth on the 2016 calendar, and with the forecast calling for sunny skies and temperatures reaching 80 degrees, it's shaping up to be an excellent weekend. A late schedule change forced the event to be moved forward a week, so registration numbers took a bit of a blow as those who could not switch vacation days were forced to cancel their regsitrations. Nevertheless, there are still some 175 drivers that will be competing on the inclined lot at Fed Ex Field. The newly-sealed lot is more conducive to the tour format, and with Sam Strano setting the course drivers can expect a fast and flowing course that nearly every driver will enjoy.

In Street classes the action will be focused in B Street, with 14 drivers vying for the win. At the top will be at least a five-way battle of the locals between Ricardo de Leon, Andrew Graul, Jason Whitehead, Michael Moran, and Andy Thomas. A Street is next biggest class with 9 drivers, made larger by the appearance of several SSR drivers. Look for a close fight between Josh Luster, Laurence Casey, Lex Kirichek, and Nate Young. C Street will have an 8-driver field.

Street Touring is brought to you by STX this weekend. An astonishing 20 drivers are registered to do battle on the hill, with Kyle Herbst, Matt Jones, Marcus Pyne, and Todd Kunze in the mix for top honors. STR has a respectable 11 drivers, with late entry G.J. Dixon in an S2000 seeking to interrupt the dominant run of Brian Karwan in his ND Miata. Thomas Layton and Shane Chinonn-Rhoden will be putting on the pressure in their NCs, so STR is definitely one to watch.

The race tire classes are fairly well subscribed, with 8 drivers in ASP, 7 in CSP, 7 in SM, and 6 in DSP. Daniel Stainback in his SM STI is guaranteed to put on a good show, coming of his strong win at the DC ProSolo.
