2016 Tire Rack Lincoln Championship Tour: Event Recap

Final Results

On Monday, most of the country had the day off from work. And for some of the Lincoln Champ Tour competitors it was no different, they made easy work of their classes. The Saturday leader of CSP, Neal Tovsen, extended his lead to 1.418 seconds on Monday to add a Champ Tour class when to his ProSolo win this weekend. Ryan Johnson and his SSP Lotus Elise stretched the lead to .916 seconds on Monday while maintaining top time in class after every set of runs. Erik Stelinieks must have taken the day off because after building a comfortable 1.681 second lead over Mike Brausen in FP on Sunday, he was only able to tack on another .456 on Monday.

Jeff Kiesel in EM claimed the victory over Jason Minehart by 3.066 seconds. And Zak Kiesel learned well from his father, leading wire to wire on Monday to capture the FM class win. STX belonged to Craig Wilcox, who followed his ProSolo victory with a .950 second win for the Champ Tour. Lane Borg left the rest of STU in the dust on Monday, claiming the class with a 1.713 second lead.

Charles Kim won his Bump Class during the ProSolo, and then led after every set of runs in the Champ Tour to take the win in SS. Sam Strano battled with Jeff Cashmore for the AS lead on Sunday, and then controlled the lead on Monday for a .577 second win over Cashmore. David Feighner had a similar route in FS. He barely edged out Brian Meyer on Sunday but lead wire to wire on Sunday, while Meyer slipped to 3rd behind Justin Eckles.

Monday was not a walk in the park for some of the other class leaders from Day 1. STR held the distinction of having the largest class and the smallest gap between 1 st and 2 nd on Day 1. Michael Yanase led James Yom by just .002 going into Monday. After first runs neither driver was in the lead, that position was held by Ron Bauer with Yom in second place. During 2 nd runs, Yanase was unable to improve position but Yom ran 54.812 which would stand for the day. The time was slower than Bauer's class leading Monday Time of 54.784 but the overnight gap was enough for Yom to capture his second class win of the weekend.

John Wolf started the final day with a .019 second lead over Daniel McCelvey in CS. But McCelvey took the lead after first runs with a 57.262. Wolf ended the day in 4 th and left William Bostic and Tyler Kvetko to battle for the lead. Neither driver would accomplish that feat, leaving Bostic in 2 nd .357 seconds behind McCelvey and Kvetko in 3rd.

The CP leader overnight was Chris Cargill by .302 seconds. He most likely didn’t sleep very well knowing that just gave Mark Madarash more time to work on his car and overcome the understeer he had felt the day before. Madarash took the lead after first runs and held on to win by .167 over Cargill. Wayne Atkins captured the 3 rd and final trophy spot.

Robert Thorne was the driver moving up in SSM on Day 2. Overnight Randall Wilcox had a .165 second lead over Nicholas Myers, and a .523 second lead over Thorne. Thorne fought mechanical issues on Sunday and seemed to resolve them for Monday. He had three fastest times of the day for the class but it took the last run of 50.960 to edge Wilcox for the win by .062. Myers slotted into third. All in all, competitors were blessed with excellent weather and Lincoln’s legendary surface. Hope to see everyone back there in September.
