5toGo: 2016 Tire Rack Wilmington Spring ProSolo

Wilmington Spring ProSolo Registration Link

May means it is the start of ProSolo season in the Midwest. This year we're lucky and will be kicking off early with the Wilmington Spring ProSolo. The first of 3 Tire Rack ProSolo’s held in Ohio, this grippy haven is nestled between Columbus and Cincinnati in Western Central Ohio. If the thought of acres of concrete waiting to hug your tires doesn't have you salivating, here are a couple more reasons to go:

If you love racing, then you are in for a TREAT! The first race starts 6 weeks prior to the event opening with registration (March 23 at 3:00 pm Central)! Being one of the most popular events in all of SCCA ProSolo, this is the event everyone wants to be at. With the implementation of the ProSolo Bundle last year, where drivers can pre-pay for 3 or more events ahead of time, it has eased some of the stress for those who can commit to events in advance. For the rest of us, it will be both a test of your internet connection and mouse skills. Make sure to stretch your fingers before repeatedly pressing F5 and good luck to you all.

Once you're in, you will have the pleasure of looking forward to this concrete and cone paradise. Like a fine wine, this 87 year old decommissioned Air Force base has only become better with age. With some of the grippiest concrete in the country, it boast an unofficial record of having been the location of only the second time that a car in an SCCA ProSolo has hit a 1.4xx 60' time. Last year at the Summer Wilmington event Eric Hyman in his "mildly" tuned Nissan GTR hit a 1.499. The only other time this writer is aware of (and honestly didn’t bother researching) was Eric Stemler in his Street Modified Evo in 2010 at the Toledo Express Airport. If you think you have what it takes, this is the place to prove it.

If you're looking for somewhere different to stay, look no further than local camping (RV included) at Cowan Lake State Park. Cowan Lake State Park offers a peaceful setting replete with scenic inlets laden with the American Lotus water lily. Swimming, fishing, sailing and canoeing are very popular on the lake. Meandering trails through mature woodlands compliment the natural features of this scenic 1,075-acre park. It also boast multiple campsites with 50' parking for your rig that include electrical hookups (read as: somewhere to plug in your welder Street Mod and Prepared drivers…).

Since Wilmington doesn't allow drinking on-site, festivities are often broken off to hotels where groups are staying. This year might be different. Rumor has it Mike Brausen (ME!) might be trying to arrange a fun outing either Friday or Saturday night. Possibly a Mini-Golf tournament or maybe even ice rental and a hockey game for those interested. Nothing official yet but there will be fun in store!

It's time to get amped up for autocross season, and what better way to do it than here. We look forward to seeing you in a few short weeks!
