2015 Tire Rack Lincoln ProSolo Friday Recap

Tune-In on uStream to the 2015 Tire Rack Lincoln ProSolo!

Day 1 of our Tire Rack 2015 Spring Nationals Prosolo is in the book. 191 competitors took to Lincoln's beautiful concrete to tear up two challenging courses. With a blessing from above, the rain staved off for all competitor runs and even a few beers afterwards. This teamed with a smoothly run event, made for a great day of Solo.

Street class competition showed some close competition, and large leads to end day 1. Chris Fenter stood on his morning runs, but continued to hold onto a 5/10 lead over Dave Ogburn III who was only able to find .2 in the afternoon session. A tight battle raged at the top of B-Street between Stephen Hui in his 2002 Corvette and Jeff Bandes' 2007 Solstice. The two ran away from the class putting a 1.8 second gap on 3rd place. Once again our class leader stood on their morning runs putting in a 43.520 and 43.363 respectively on his 3rd and 4th run of the morning session. Bandes was nearly able to match the left side time with his own 43.573, but was unable to make up the other tenth on the right side. Sitting just .143 apart, tomorrow mornings runs are going to be critical. Another tight battle was a pair of Toyota Spyders at the top of ES. Paul Brown and Eric Peterson started out fast and didn’t look back. Separated by just .184 at the end of the day, look for these two to be mixing it up more tomorrow.

Bump 4 proved to be an eventful class with multiple lead changes, and peoples seeing themselves bumped down the trophies as times dropped in the afternoon. Neal Tovsen left the morning session with a pair of very quick runs in his bright blue CSP Miata holding a 5/10 lead over the second place kart of Tom Harrington. The afternoon would bring about some changes to the results however, as Larry MacLeod would clean up a dirty run and a red light on the left side to post the current fast times of day and take the class lead by almost 7/10. Not to be left behind, Harrington dipped solidly into the mid 36’s himself to keep the competition within reach. Tovsen who was able to shave 5/10 on the left side, but unable to improve on the right, fell to 3rd place.

SSM brought a mix of fantastically different cars displaying that they all have a chance going into Saturday morning. After feeling out the course on his first run, Erik Strelnieks in the Jungle Cat Racing RX7 jumped right out and dropped into the 38's, holding onto the lead throughout the day. With a slow start in the morning session, Randall Wilcox was able to start solving the puzzle in the afternoon, and set the fast right side time in SSM with a 38.627. However resting on his morning left side 39.133, he sits 6/10 out of the lead with 2 chances to drop it tomorrow. David de Regt driving the Lotus Elise that saw a win in Pros Landing put in a solid pair of 39.0’s to put in him close position tomorrow.

Not to be out done in the same scary 3-rotor RX7, Beth McClure-Strelnieks put in two very fast 40.4’s to take second place in a stacked L1 class. Hustling that large Corvette around course to take the lead on her afternoon runs was your 2014 Driver of Eminence Shelly Monfort. Posting a pair of low 41’s running on SSR index left her to lead by .779 going into Saturdays runs. However don't ever count Beth as Day1 is a whole new day.

In L2 action, Jocelin Huang (rhymes with "song") stepped out to an early lead in her street tire clad Posche GT3 with a 42.9 and 42.9 holding 7/10 over Jordan Towns in the “I swear it’s not a Camry” 2015 Subaru WRX. In the afternoon, Jordan dialed in some great reaction times and started to put that AWD launch to good use dropping 1.6 seconds to take the class lead going into Day 2 by 7/10 of a second. Keep an eye on this as they are both bound to find time tomorrow. And if you’re curious if it is a Subaru, remember to check the bumpers (Camry Corners) for damage. If not, then it might just be a Subaru!

Tune in Saturday for some more fast and furious action with these and other fine classes still fighting for those final spots. Catch the video and audio action on http://www.ustream.tv/channel/sccasolo and the stats live as they come in on sololive.scca.com.
