Tune-In: Colorado Match Tour

Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colorado is a premier site to many of Colorado's racing scenes. Whether it be lapping days or drift events on the road course, club racing on the 1-mile oval or rallycrosses on the dirt track; there is a myriad of racing action to be had. But this weekend, the focus will be on its 12 acre paved lot as the Colorado Region SCCA hosts the 2014 Rocky Mountain Match Tour, the 4th stop of the series. Due to the unique location of the site and the sparse population of Colorado and it's surrounding areas national events here basically are local events with a smattering of out-of-state travelers. But don't be fooled. Lack of competition and excitement that does not make. With contingencies and trophies on the line, once friendly local rivalries will now be taking on a whole new flavor. It'll be a "rocky road" for sure.

Let's start with street... All classes will have representation but the largest by far will be GS with 11 entries. By now it should be no surprise to see the class full of Focus ST's and this one is no exception. Fresh off his Champ Tour win last month in Lincoln, Trevor Jones will be traveling down from Wisconsin to take on the local contingent including Solo Driver of Eminence and multiple national champion, John Ames. It very well could be that Ames' earned his first jacket before any of his fellow competitors were even born! Local BS S2K driver, Bob Klingler, is always fast and Lane Borg making the journey up from Texas with his C5 Corvette is here to put him to the test.

In Street Touring action it's no surprise to see STX as the most subscribed class with 14 entries. The strife for STX supremacy looks to be between the RX8 of Tom Reynolds and the FRS of Salil Shukla although you can't count out Greg Paine and his Mazdaspeed3. Locally STU drivers Chris Gladu and Tyler Jago have been duking it out all season and the Match Tour should prove to be no different. However, Ryan Schossow will be looking to have his say with his Mitsubishi Evo.

For years now Colorado has been a magnet for national championship FSP cars. Surely one of the biggest battles this weekend will be between James Darden driving the well recognized Shrek green BMW 2002 and John Bonvouloir driving the WenzelWerks VW Scirocco. These two cars represent 6 of the last 9 jackets in FSP. Could this weekend be a precursor to who's standing on the podium at Nationals? Stay tuned to find out although Jesse Caudill will be shaking the cobwebs off his Honda Civic and try to play spoiler.

Eric Hyman will be making the trek out from the northwest with arguably the most widely recognized autocross car at the moment, his SM Godzilla GT-R. Ready to battle will be Mark Baer and Tyler Faucett both in well prepped BMW's. It will be Godzilla vs Bavariagan.

So make sure you tune in for what's sure to be an all-out no-holds-barred slugfest. Will the horsepower-sucking altitude of Pikes Peak turn Godzilla into a momentum car? Will Team Formunda pull off a Big Wheel Prosolo threepeat? Will Tecate, the lovable pink turtle, remain in Colorado with Van Townsend or will he end up in finding his way to Tom Reynold's house in New Mexico? Will Brian Harmer or Kim Whitener be buying Kit Kats and who'll get to eat them? Oh the suspense!

Be sure to tune in this Satuday at 9:00am MST to uStream and SoloLive.
