March is rapidly approaching, and along with it comes the kickoff to the 2014 SCCA Solo Road to Lincoln. What better way to get the year started right, than to come to the inaugural National Tour, deep in the heart of Dixie. Here are five reasons why the Dixie Tour is a must-stop along your way to Nationals.

Kick-off. Dixie is the perfect chance to shake off the cobwebs and dive in head first into competition. It's the first chance for people to see who the real challengers, cars and drivers, are going to be in the upcoming season. This year, the Tour returns to the traditional Champ Tour format, back from adopting the Match Tour format for 2012, giving competitors 6 runs over 2 days; fastest time each day adds up for your total time and determines your place in class.

The competition. Dixie is almost always a sellout tour, with competitors coming from all over the Southeast and at least one driver coming all the way from Washington State. Historically, most classes are well represented, with some classes having well over 20 drivers. It's a great escape from the cold, and the perfect way to usher in Spring.

Fun and Fast. Courses at the Dixie Tour are generally of the "runway" variety: long, more transitional, and fast! It's a very consistent asphalt surface with very little degradation or rough patches, and provides for a smooth ride for those in stiff cars. The site layout and course designs provide opportunities for both horsepower and handling to shine.

The pre-event party. The Dixie Region SCCA always puts together an awesome welcome for its guests. There's always a huge grill going, with plenty of burgers, brats, and beverages to go around. With the influx of people from the surrounding regions there is always a good time to be had in Dixie.

Blue skies. Need more be said about this? Southern Georgia around the middle of March generally has temperatures hovering in the 50's-70's. Rain is rarely an issue, and the sun never gets so overbearing that spending all day outside gets old. For many competitors, Dixie is their first taste of spring, and an excellent respite from winter, while getting to lay down some tire tracks in the process.
