Why should you be a Nationals chief? by Mari Clements What is Solo Nationals? Acres of concrete.  Two fabulous courses.  Over a thousand of your best friends--and the stiffest competition you're likely to see anywhere.  Nearly 4000 runs timed to thousandths of a second.  Hundreds of cars to be paddocked, teched, gridded, started, timed, impounded, and weighed. When you think about it, Solo Nationals is an amazingly complex enterprise.  We are blessed with a terrific National Staff, and their contributions are absolutely invaluable, but the worker chiefs provide the moment-by-moment structure and support that keep the event running smoothly.  They also work as a team, sharing the load so that the event can be the best that it can be. We'd like to invite you to be part of this team.  In keeping with our theme for this year, "This One Goes to 11," we've generated a list of eleven reasons why you should consider being a chief for the 2011 Solo Nationals. 11.  If you've ever been envious of the really cool "chiefs team" hat, you should be a chief.  (They're *really* great this year!) 10.  If you'd like to work on your non-competition days so that you can be free to focus on your driving on the days you run, you should be a chief. 9.  If you like working with a wonderful group of people, you should be a chief. 8.  If you'd like to give back to the sport, you should be a chief. 7.  If you like to see your name in the front of the Driver Information Manual and Official Results, you should be a chief. 6.  If you have energy and enthusiasm, and are reliable, organized, and friendly, you should be a chief. 5.  If you think that autocrossers are the best people on earth, you should be a chief. 4.  If you've ever had a problem and been helped by an event official, you should be a chief. 3.  If you've ever been at an event and wondered, "Why doesn't *that* work better?" you should be a chief. 2.  If you've ever thought, "I'm glad they fixed that!" you should be a chief. 1.  If Nationals is the highlight of your year, and you'd like to make it even better, you should be a chief. We have a number of openings, including Op Stewards and their assistants, Grid Chiefs, Waiver Chief, Worker Chief, Sound Steward, and Registration Chief.  For most of these spots, we already have one or more experienced volunteers with whom you would be working.  If you need more information or if you are ready to volunteer, please send an email to MariSCCA@charter.net.  With your help, Solo Nationals will go to 11! mlc
