Atlanta was the first tour event to feature live audio without the “testing” caveat.  Mark Davis, Chris Cline, Heyward Wagner and Dave Hardy delivered all the action to over 1000 listeners over the two days.  All totaled, there were over 650 hours of listening time during the event.  The rest of the 2011 Tire Rack SCCA National Series events will feature live audio, though there is not a plan in place to add video. Sam Strano took his first Super Stock win in the Jason Burns 2010 Corvette Grand Sport, with Burns finishing in the 3rd.  Matthew Braun slotting between the two for second, using 3 cars to claim the trophy.  He started the weekend in his normal ride, the Leckey Lotus, but after a broken swaybar endlink, Braun took a run each in a pair of Corvettes, eventually setting the top time of the day for Super Stock in the C5 Z06 of Steve Waters. Tom Deady of Hickory North Carolina took his first tour win at the Atlanta Tour in C-Stock.  Deady, without a co-driver, ran with the first drivers, taking the lead several times during the weekend only to see Jason Ruggles take it back during 2nd driver runs.  Deady claimed the lead once more on his final run, and when Ruggles was unable to improve it gave Deady the win.  Deady was not the only North Carolina driver to take a tour win back to the Tarheel state.   In all, North Carolina drivers accounted for 8 wins- Jadrice Toussant (BS), Tom Deady (CS), James Feinberg, (DS), Lesli Schmid (STL), Michael Kuhn (STX), Steve Rankins (STU), Justin Barby (FSP) and Ginette Jordan (FSPL). Despite the general success of NC drivers, the biggest story out of the state was a 2ndplace Finish in STX.  Brett Shillock, a 21-year veteran of autocross, made his first ever National level start at the Atlanta Tour.  He had intended to run in ST, but the car broke an axle on the practice course.  Dave O’Maley offered his ST Civic for STX, which Shillock accepted and drove to the 2nd spot setting the top time in the class on the second day.  The overwhelming reaction from his NC brethren was that Brett WILL be in Lincoln.  When asked directly, Shillock simply smiled. Street Touring co-drivers, Bill Bounds and Tim Smith, have taken 2 of the last 3 National Championships in the class.  However, the Atlanta Tour hinted that this season may be the end of their Street Touring run.  While at the Tour, Smith took possession of a E-Prepared Civic with championship pedigree.  It is unknown if the two are planning to continue driving together, but it is expected that the multi-championship winning ST Civic will be for sale at season’s end.  For Smith, E-Prepared is a full circle journey as he made his Solo Nationals debut in the class with a 4th place finish. CSP has been a class largely dominated by west coast drivers of late.  Brandon Travasos may have something to say about that come August.  A 2010 Solo Nationals rookie in F-125, Travasos has teamed up the Darren Darby in a NB Miata.  Travasos has shown strong speed in the car already this season, but had a stand out performance in Atlanta, finishing 2.1 clear of the field over the two days. Jesse Seeley was only able to run one day of the Atlanta tour, as he spent Saturday at Carolina Motorsports Park competing in a wheel to wheel kart race.  Jesse won the Saturday race and passed a full engine tear down inspection.  The inspection, however, left his kart in pieces.  Father, Dale, made the 5 hour drive to Atlanta Motor Speedway, got the kart put back together and had Jesse in grid, ready for his runs.  Jesse ran a 36.6 on his third run, which was only 3 tenths off of the F-125 pace and among the top 10 times of the day.
