What are Those Little CanAm Looking Things?

There are a lot of questions first-time Club Racing spectators might have. One that sticks out to those ‘in the know’ is “What are those little CanAm looking things?” Answer: Those are Spec Racer Fords.

As the Spec Racer Ford (SRF) enters its third generation, we should address what these cool little cars are. Built and sold by SCCA Enterprises, these cars are spec, meaning each car is mechanically identical. The class is ideal for racers looking for a high fun to cost ratio.

SRF racer James Chartres contributed a recent article to our friends at Track Tuned on the cars and class. He touches on the history of the cars, “The class was created to be a low cost competitive sports racing class and it is still very affordable to this day, with a 30-year-old chassis still able to run up front with brand new cars.”

Since introduction, over 870 cars have been built by SCCA Enterprises, making SRF SCCA's largest documented class.
