At A Glance: Mid-Ohio Majors

Storylines/Things to Watch:

The Gang’s All Here – More than 475 cars are registered across 28 Classes set to race in nine Groups during the June 3-5 SCCA U.S. Majors Tour at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. That’s a lot of machinery fighting it out on Saturday and Sunday for points in both the Northeast Conference and Northern Conference since this is a combined event. Follow all the action online at www.scca.com/live where both video and audio will be accessible so everyone can witness all the excitement from anywhere in the world.

Superlative Spec Showcases – The largest Class of the weekend is Spec Miata ringing in with more than 60 entries. Those competitors will undoubtedly put on a show this weekend in both the 25-minute race Saturday and 35-minute race Sunday. And not to be outdone, the Spec Racer Ford and Spec Racer Ford Gen3 combined Group, which also has more than 60 on the entry list, should be a thrilling battle, too. It was a SRF field of nearly the same size that produced an absolutely memorable race earlier this year at VIRginia International Raceway during the SCCA U.S. Majors Tour stop at that venue back in April.

Solid Racing Throughout – But it’s not just the Spec folks that are arriving in force at Mid-Ohio this weekend. Other Classes with good-sized fields include: Formula Vee, Super Touring Lite, Touring 2, Touring 4, E Production, GT-Lite, GT-2 and H Production to just name a few. And throughout all the Classes, a fair number of SCCA Runoffs Champions will be in attendance and tightening the belts to hit the track Saturday and Sunday. Tune in online at www.scca.com/live and don’t miss a minute.

Why All the Hubbub? – The weekend’s SCCA U.S. Majors Tour at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is a precursor to this year’s SCCA National Championship Runoffs, presented by Garmin VIRB, which will also be held at Mid-Ohio in September. This will be the first time since 2005 that the Runoffs have been held at this legendary 2.25-mile, 13-turn road course situated midway between Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio. And because of that fact, many drivers intending to compete at the Runoffs are using this weekend’s Majors Tour visit as a way to hone both man and machinery, with the ultimate goal being the ultimate victory for an end-of-year National Championship.
