At A Glance: Pueblo and Pacific Majors

Storylines/Things to Watch:

While Some Watch, Others “Do” – Memorial Day weekend is always a fantastic cornucopia of televised racing. As usual, millions will passively watch the Indy 500, Monaco Grand Prix and NASCAR events from their living room couches. But many Sports Car Club of America drivers will be actively participating in motorsport at U.S. Majors Tour meets scheduled for Pueblo Motorsports Park and Pacific Raceways this weekend. Catch all the action online at www.scca.com/live.

Two-Day and Three-Day Events – While the Mid-States Conference has a traditional two-day schedule for its event at Pueblo Motorsports Park, the SCCA U.S. Majors Tour competition will actually stretch all the way into Memorial Day this weekend as the Western Conference is racing Monday at Pacific Raceways. That means racing fans can keep the excitement going even during cookouts by following the action Monday at www.scca.com/live.

Trackside vs Televised – Being at a race is always so much better than watching one on television. The colors are crisper, the sound envelops onlookers, and the aroma just can’t be matched by a televised broadcast. Spectators are welcome at SCCA U.S. Majors Tour events, and plenty of gorgeous machinery will be on hand to gaze upon at Pueblo Motorsports Park in Pueblo, Colorado, or Pacific Raceways in Kent, Washington. Check track websites to learn if there is a nominal fee for entry.

Time Running Out – Both the Western Conference and Mid-States Conference are in the back half of their 2016 SCCA U.S. Majors Tour schedules. After this weekend at Pueblo Motorsports Park and Pacific Raceways, the Western Conference has one final event July 2-3 at Portland International Raceway, and the Mid-States Conference wraps up its season July 2-3 at High Plains Raceway. That means drivers in these Regions are running out of opportunities to rack up points and qualify for the 2016 SCCA National Championship Runoffs, presented by Garmin VIRB, at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in September.
