TOPEKA, Kan. (Dec. 4, 2015) – Event schedule and Leadership Summit session descriptions for the 2016 SCCA National Convention, Jan. 21-23 at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, are now available at SCCA.com. The Leadership Summit schedule is packed with over 40 sessions of trainings, info sessions and meetings, focused on bringing SCCA leaders from across the country together to learn, share and connect.
The Convention will kick off with the Annual Meeting and Welcome Party on Thursday and will conclude on Saturday night with the Hall of Fame Awards Banquet. Between those convention mainstays, the Leadership Summit will provide a fresh approach and purpose to the annual gathering. The guiding philosophy is based on giving SCCA Regional leadership three things: leadership skills to improve their effectiveness as leaders both inside and outside the Club, SCCA skills that can improve their Regions and an opportunity to meet and connect with leaders from across the country.
Three sessions highlight the example of teaching, and discussing, the larger skills that are needed to help improve and grow the Club. Leading this category is ‘A Culture of Hospitality’, a presentation by Chris Robbins, SCCA Club member and Senior Program Lead for Southwest Airlines University. The presentation will dissect the attitudes, communication, look, feel and tone that are the bedrocks of one America’s strongest corporate cultures.
Brady Gill, Director of Play at Digital Detox, will present on the importance of involving the Club’s younger members in all things SCCA. From engagement at events, to helping plan the motorsport events that the Club has become known for, this presentation will introduce concepts and ideas that can be implemented to engage, educate and entertain children and build their connection with SCCA.
‘Building SCCA Champions’ will be a joint presentation featuring India Bounds, Champions Coordinator for Track Night in America, with a return by Robbins. This session will focus on creating a group of advocates to grow event participation and interest in the Club. Region leadership will be able to borrow lessons learned during the implementation of the Track Night in America program.
In addition to the over-arching philosophy of training leaders, there are several sessions that will pertain to specific skillsets within the Club.
Examples of this include a session for all Safety Stewards, presented by Kathy Barnes, and ‘How To’ sessions on hosting a variety of events, including Tire Rack Street Survival and a Majors event.
There will also be a chance to have roundtable discussion with leaders from each of the four areas of competition within the Club.
