SCCA’s Own Take to the Clouds

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is the second oldest motorsports race in America and for a century, drivers have raced to the mountain’s summit on public roads. The first Pikes Peak Auto Hill Climb was held in August of 1916. Although the road has been widened in places and completely paved, the purpose of the event remains the same: battle conditions guaranteed to change and be the first to the top.

This year, out of 72 car entries, ten SCCA members made the climb. Of the nine car-based classes, three were won by SCCA members.

Dominic Dobson took his 2010 Radical SR8 to the top fastest in the Unlimited Division with a time of 10:15.289. This was Dobson’s first year taking on the mountain.
David Donner was fastest in Time Attack 2 with his 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo S, completing the climb in 10:15.289. This was Donner’s 22nd attempt at Pikes Peak and his fifth win. It also marks the ninth win for the Donner family.
Jonathan Frost tackled the mountain as a rookie and emerged the victor in the Pikes Peak Open class in his 2014 Palatov D2RS with a time of 10:21.978.

As this illustrates, the reach of SCCA goes far beyond circuit racings. Our Club is all about pushing our vehicles, as well as our selves, to the limit. The result is more than just having a good time, but also achieving things that others would not dare to contemplate. That sentiment is one reason we all love this Club and why we are proud to call ourselves SCCA members.
