Throwback Thursday

If you follow professional hockey, you may recognize the name, Mike McKenna. He’s a goalie, currently with the Arizona Coyotes organization. What you may not know is that he has held a SCCA membership, and that his father, Terry, is a four-time Runoffs Champion. A few months ago, Mike shared a picture of his dad with one of the cars as a #tbt and we thought that was pretty cool.

In 1982, Terry won Championships in CSR and FC and landed the President’s Cup. In 83 and 84, he repeated Championships in FC. From the January 1983 issue of SportsCar covering the 82 Runoffs:

“McKenna is one from the breed that turns the wrenches as well as the steering wheel. Stroll by the Budweiser/Grey Eagle trailer any time during the week, and you’d find Terry and his dad engulfed in the entrails of one of the race cars… McKenna’s splendid performance coupled with his triumph in CSR earned the Manchester, MO., pilot the President’s Cup… and well deserved it was, too.” –Bill King

Terry McKenna maintains his SCCA membership and is a member of the Road Racing Drivers Club, an exclusive group of Championship Drivers.
