RallyX National Championships Claimed In The Dirt

TULSA, Okla. (October 12, 2011) - Sports Car Club of America RallyCross participants upped 2010’s record breaking field by nearly 33 percent last weekend during the SCCA RallyCross National Championship at Tulsa Raceway Park (TRP) in Tulsa, Ok.

Exactly 100 entrants, up from 76 a season ago, participated in the first event held at its current location under sunny skies and temperatures in the low 80s, hosted by the NeOklahoma Region.

SCCA’s RallyCross competition use aggregate times of eight runs to determine the winner. In the Prepared – All Wheel Drive class, Kubo Kordisch, of Brighton, Colo., and Nathan Usher, of Mason, Mich., traded blows through all eight of their scored runs on the loose track. Matching run for run, Kordisch’s Coys Custom Wheels & Tires Subaru Impreza topped Usher’s Subaru WRX Wagon in four of the runs, and at the conclusion of the weekend earned the National Championship by only 0.197-second.

Not far removed from that gap was the battle for the win in the Stock – Front Wheel Drive class, where Brent Trail, of Bedford, Va., topped Brian Priebe, of Lexington, Ohio, in five of the eight runs through the weekend. Priebe’s Nissan Sentra got the best of Trail’s Honda CRX on total time, though, and edged out a 1.717-second win for the National Championship, with co-driver Matthew Dahn in third.

The margin of victory in the Stock – All Wheel Drive class was nearly the same as the front wheel drive, with Jan Gerber, of Raltson, Neb., trading times with Gary Marascola, of Fort Collins, Colo. Gerber edged out a 1.948-second National Championship in a Subaru WRX, just ahead of Marascola’s Subaru Impreza.

The RallyCross National Championship was moved to the middle of the country to allow more access to SCCA Members, but the location didn’t seem to matter at all to Kent Hamilton, of Anchorage, Alaska. Hamilton, driving a Honda Civic, topped Bobby Jasan, of Bentonville, Ark., by 1.253 seconds in Jasan’s LudicrousSpeedMotorsports.com Nissan Sentra SE-R. Hamilton’s close Modified – Two Wheel Drive win came in a 24-car class, the largest of the event.

Club Racer Sam Henry, of Republic, Mo., narrowly missed a podium finish in F Production at the Runoffs just a couple of weeks prior, but got his National Championship in RallyCross by winning the Prepared – Rear Wheel Drive class in his SpringfieldDyno.com/SafeRacer Mazda Miata.

One driver without a close battle was the dominating run of Keith Lightfoot, of Fort Collins, Colo., in the Prepared – Front Wheel Drive class. Lightfoot drove his Coyote Ridge Motorsports/Team D Ford Focus SVT to a 26.910-second victory over the 12 other cars in his class.
