RallyCross Championship To Remain In Tulsa For 2012

TOPEKA, Kan. (December 9, 2011) – The Sports Car Club of America announced that Tulsa Raceway Park (TRP) will host the RallyCross National Championship for the second consecutive year, following record-breaking attendance in 2011. The 2012 event will take place October 5-7.

Despite the success of the 2011 event, the sale of TRP to a local mining company threatened the event location. In November, a multi-year lease agreement was reached with a former track partner to continue to operate the site as a motorsports facility.

The event will, once again, be conducted on a hard-packed grass spectator parking lot near the drag strip at the facility.

“We are looking forward to the opportunity to run at TRP again and build on all that we learned at the 2011 RallyCross National Championship,” Howard Duncan, SCCA VP of Rally, Solo and Program Development, said. “Running this site for a second time allows us to provide an even better experience for our SCCA RallyCross competitors from across the country.”

A 40 year staple of Tulsa, the facility hosts a full stable of amenities, and sits at the crossroads of I-244 and US 169 for easy highway access. Local restaurants, hotels and the Tulsa airport are located nearby the facility.

The NEOKLA Region will once again play host to the event, with assistance from officials from around the country, the RallyCross Board, and the SCCA National Staff in the same fashion as other SCCA National Championship events including the Tire Rack Solo National Championship and the SCCA National Championship Runoffs.

“We're so excited to have TRP available for the RallyCross National Championship,” said Ken Cashion, RallyCross Board Chairman. “The site really made the 2011 event. The surface was outstanding, and the central location drew an amazing cross-section of competitors. It's our goal to hold the RXNC in the same place for 3 consecutive years, so this is great news!"

Registration for the SCCA RallyCross National Championship will open in mid-July.
