Steve Strickland, Area 12 Board of Directors
December 17, 2024

Hello, fellow Area 12 members.

I hope that everyone has been able to enjoy the championship season as much as I have this year.

I thoroughly enjoyed attending my first Solo Nationals in September- what an event! It is truly impressive to see the efforts of volunteers, staff, and of course the competitors to smoothly run such a large event.

Later in the month, I attended my 12th Runoffs. The return to Road America was well received by all participants. I did not compete this year, so I was able to fully enjoy the terrific racing along with all the social events and celebrations. I do want to give a shout out to three of our leading SEDiv Spec Miata competitors who were involved in a significant crash during practice. Chuck Mactutus was injured but able to return to the track later in the week. Jim Drago and Danny Steyn suffered more serious injuries and their road to recovery will be longer. Please keep them all in your thoughts and prayers.

The primary purpose of this note is to mention that 2024 will mark my 5th year of service on the National Board of Directors. 2025 will be my last year, so Area 12 will have an open seat for 2026. I have very much enjoyed serving you and the Club in that role, and I believe that the club is in a solid position in all its programs.

I am pleased to note that I have had conversations with several fellow Area 12 members interested in running for the seat. Everyone I have spoken with is very qualified and would bring a strong background in Club leadership and outside experience to the role. The Club benefits when we have a good slate of candidates.

I do strongly suggest that anyone interested in running plan on attending our SEDiv annual meeting at the Sea Palms Resort on St Simons Island, GA, on January 25th and 26th, 2025. It is a great chance to meet with the SEDiv leadership team and members of the SCCA staff. We will also allow a brief speaking opportunity for potential candidates during the annual business meeting on Saturday afternoon. It’s a great chance to introduce yourself to the group and help them learn a bit more about you.

I would also be happy to speak with anyone in person who has an interest in running for the Board. You can reach me at sstrickland@scca.com.

Lastly, I do want to mention that our virtual Annual Convention is right around the corner, kicking off on January 16th, 2025 (https://www.scca.com/pages/nationalconvention). It spans almost two weeks and offers a variety of topics and content regarding our programs and how the club is doing overall. Watch for the schedule in your email- don’t miss it!

Hope to see you at an event next year!
