Runoffs Report for Friday, Sept. 30 (All)

What a day! What. A. Day… Here are some notes after the first nine eight National Champions were crowned for 2022…

Schedule Change

Remember last night’s e-mail about how an oil-down in the rain would cause a delay? Well, the worst-case scenario related to that happened today, with oil around nearly the entire circuit. If it’s raining and there’s oil, it needs to be neutralized with detergent and then washed off. Oil dry just becomes mud. If it goes around the entire track, it requires detergent from all over the greater Danville/South Boston area. I believe we set some sort of record today…

We texted this out earlier, but Saturday’s schedule will start with FX at 8 a.m., with the nine races scheduled for Saturday following. Here are the anticipated start times. This is ambitious, and we won’t go earlier than this. We also know from today that we need to be flexible:

All races Saturday will be 15 laps or 35 minutes, whichever happens first. The following are cars-on-course times:

From the Race Director and Staff

Thank you to all of the workers, drivers, crews, families and friends, broadcast team and VIR staff that all pulled together to make a really difficult day work as well as we could have hoped. Sincere gratitude to everyone. That was some of the worst weather we’ve experienced at the Runoffs, and SCCA really showed how it can come together as a big team and get it done. It was impressive.

If we could email emojis, we’d send you all fist bumps, high fives, hearts and umbrellas!

Weather

Ian went out to the Atlantic, fired back up and has made landfall on the east coast and we’ll see some of the affects of that tonight. Make sure everything is still secured. The good news? Saturday and Sunday look to improve over today. (Fingers crossed emoji).

Congratulations to our first eight Champions!

Don’t forget to get your Event Tumbler!

Your driver and worker bags had a red card in them that was a coupon for the sweet 2022 Runoffs event tumbler. It works with cold OR hot beverages. You can pick them up at the SCCA Gear tent between the Pagoda and Victory Lane.
