Runoffs Driver/Prep Shop Report for Saturday, Sept. 24

On-track day #1 is complete at the 2022 Runoffs. Here is this evening’s news you need to know…

On-Track Notes

Unfortunately, as has been the case in previous years, drivers are not slowing down for yellows, even double yellows. If we want uninterrupted sessions, slow down under yellow. When you see double-yellow, slow down to safety car speed.

On Sunday, we will begin to utilize safety cars during sessions. This helps control the field to do quick pick-ups and get the session back to green as quickly as possible. If you see a safety car on track, close up to it as you would during a race, but be aware that the safety car may extinguish its lights and exit the track at multiple places around the circuit, restoring the green-flag conditions.

We lost quite a bit of time on Saturday due to oil downs. Please be cognizant of the mechanical state of your car, and pull off as quickly as possible if you have a problem. Today, we used 46 bags of oil dry and had to shorten late-day sessions.

Paddock

Great job working with the paddock team with load-in. Please remember that empty spaces may not be empty for long, so only park your street and pit vehicles in your space or a designated parking area.

With the paddock filling up, please heed traffic signs, including one-way and stop signs. We’ve had a couple of incidents in the paddock where people are cutting through spaces, driving too fast and generally not paying attention. Please use caution!

Also, hoverboards and one-wheeled vehicles are not permitted on the VIR property.
