Runoffs Report – Monday, 9/27, 8:20 am

Good morning from Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the 2021 SCCA Runoffs!

On Track Notes:

  • We had a number of incidents and near misses during test sessions on Sunday. Some of you have already run this week, but others are getting on track for the first time. Everyone’s goal is to get through the day in good shape for Tuesday’s qualifying. Please be cognizant that other drivers may be at a different speed level in these sessions. If you’re getting up to speed, please watch your mirrors, the flags and be predictable!
  • Better job Sunday with the local yellows – keep up the good work! IMS Safety is doing hot pulls where they can, but if drivers are not slowing down, they will stop doing the hot pulls and we’ll lose track time.
  • Starts & Restarts:
    • Start procedures were explained in detail in the driver’s meeting video. If you haven’t watched it, you should do so now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djYyWP4VDAY
    • We have received a question as to whether the same requirements apply to the race leader and field on restarts. The short answer is, “yes.” GCR 6.6.2.B.1.iii states that the leader will “maintain the speed of the safety car coming down to a restart.”
  • Your transponder must be functioning during Test Day, Qualifying and Race sessions. Cars without working transponders will be black flagged.
  • We have updated the course map on the event page to show the re-entry path at Turns 1 and 12, should you overshoot the corner. All maps are at www.scca.com/runoffs under “Event Information” and “Maps” – or that map can be accessed directly here: https://www.scca.com/downloads/58598-21-ims-corner-stations-without-segments-0913/download

Facility Notes:

  • If you would like the trash bins in the paddock to be emptied, please make sure they are along the fire lane. Sanitation staff will not come into your paddock or camping area to empty your trash bin.
  • Track staff has had to ask a number of people to leave areas that are not open to participants. If there is a gate, rope, fence or any other thing that looks like it could be a blockade, please assume that area is not open. This includes the golf course! Two groups were removed from the golf course Sunday evening. If you’d like to golf, please contact Brickyward Crossing directly.
  • We are still seeing several golf carts and pit vehicles parked on the viewing mounds. These are not permitted on the mounds. Please park them in a safe place and walk up the mounds.

Event Notes:

  • Great track walk Sunday! Let’s do it again today. Specific notes:
    • We will do a group photo at the yard of bricks before starting today. Please join us for the picture!
    • Once again, bicycles and ADA mobility devices may be used at a normal walking speed. Golf carts, motorized scooters or other pit vehicles are not permitted. No open containers. See event supps 5.2.
  • Join us for the event Kick-Off Party at Pagoda Plaza, featuring the band The Indigos! They will begin at 7:30 pm. We’ll have dinner and beverages for everyone.
  • Speaking of Pagoda Plaza (that’s the area behind the Pagoda (tower), no vehicles in the Plaza, please! If you come over for the party, you might consider parking pit vehicles in the gravel lot behind the media center, just north of the traffic circle. Please don’t block the traffic circle as the shuttles will still be running.
  • Street vehicles must be parked in designated lots or within your paddock space. If you see an open spot in the paddock, assume a trailer will be trying to park there soon.
  • There has been plenty of street car parking space in the gravel lot with a fence around it between Meyer Drive and Foyt Drive. If there is no space there, or in the other Paddock lots designated by your hang tag, please move up to Lot 7, North of oval Turn 4.
