2021 will mark the first running of the Pine Mountain HillClimb on May 1 and 2 at Pine Mountain State Resort Park in Pineville, Kentucky.
The park is located in the eastern Kentucky mountains about two hours south of Lexington, KY and two hours north of Knoxville, TN. The two-mile 10-turn course has 650 feet of elevation gain as it winds it's way up the park access road.
Multi-time HillClimb "King of the Hill" title holder and SCCA A-Modified National Champion George Bowland believes it's the best HIllClimbing site in the country.
"It has everything," Bowland says, "fast flowing sections, slower technical corners, a great surface and plenty of dips and rises that both offer challenge and just makes the hill fun."
The event is a group effort between the East Tennessee, Blue Ridge and Central Carolinas Regions along with the Region Development and Experiential Programs Departments of the National Office with support from the Pennsylvania HillClimb Association.
Drivers do not have to have HillClimb experience to participate and coaching will be required for those who have never done a HillClimb before. Vehicles and driver gear will need to meet Safety Level 2 requirements at a minimum, which consists of an approved 4-point roll bar, a proper seat, harnesses and driver safety gear including fire-retardant suit, shoes, gloves and helmet along with a few other items.
