With SCCA® Targa Tex-ish and Targa Carolinas in the bag, it’s time for the series to continue its circle of America and head up the coast to New England on July 15-18, 2026, for the aptly named SCCA Targa New England. Hey, we’re nothing if not creative with these event names. If you find our naming nomenclature somewhat lackluster, rest assured that’s because we stuff all of our brainpower into the events themselves, with Targa New England being one of the finest to carry the SCCA Targa name.
Also, it’s not too late to register.
Not sure what an SCCA Targa event is? It’s you and a teammate on a four-day adventure that involves four racetracks with transit stages between each of those offering enough action to be the event itself. SCCA Targa events keep you hopping from Wednesday to Saturday, but with a small enough grouping of teams that camaraderie overtakes competitiveness.
Half the Challenge
The obvious challenge at an SCCA Targa is on the track. And with Targa New England, that portion will be glorious.
The SCCA Targa New England adventure begins on July 15 at Palmer Motorsports Park. This gem located in Wanne, MA, is wicked good to the tune of 2.3 miles and 14 corners. The circuit itself is beyond iconic, set into hills in what can only be described as something straight out of a videogame. A Targa first for visiting this facility, teams will have multiple opportunities to lap the circuit, setting a time that will count toward their overall score.
Palmer is amazing, yet teams will find themselves in a strange predicament while there because they’ll also be looking forward to the time they’ll spend at the historic Lime Rock Park on July 16. This Lakeville, CT, classic is the stuff of legend, with the laps coming fast around the 1.53-mile, 7-turn facility that features a final turn that makes even the most experienced drivers pucker.
From there, teams head south for TrackSprint competition at Canaan Motor Club on July 17. Located in the small town of Canaan, NH, Canaan Motor Club’s road course might be tiny, but it’s mighty, with all 1.3 miles and 9 turns punching well above its weight when it comes to smiles per miles.
Teams then trek to Long Pond, PA, for July 18 at Pocono Raceway. There, Targa teams will join the drivers at the Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack Challenge to wrap the four-day Targa adventure with track time and a Saturday award celebration that’s often as fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants as Targa itself.
Targa teams wishing to continue the action into Sunday can do so by entering the Time Attack Challenge as well, with drivers receiving a 10% discount should they choose to double dip.
The Other Half
Targa involves more than driving on track. Other challenges abound, including coming up with a creative and witty team name for you and your co-driver (which is harder than you think), and then there’s the transit stages between each event (which continuously rachet up).
For creating a team name, well, you’re on your own, but past memorable ones have included Two Porkies in a Pig (piloting a Porsche), Team Crowd Crushers (guess their car), and Team In it to tWin it. And while we're not proud to admit it, seeing "Team DeutschBagz" on a past entry list made us giggle.
Then come the transits.
The trip from Palmer to Lime Rock isn’t hard – it’s a sprightly 95-mile westward jaunt, which won’t be too challenging. You’ll have plenty of time to accomplish whatever it is that the Targa organizers suggest you do on that transit stage. Reality will hit after Lime Rock, where you’ll be covering some 200 miles (that includes a stop-off near Mt. Washington) to Canaan after two days of fun in the sun. Then the endurance portion of Targa cranks up once more with a 350+ mile run from Canaan to Pocono for the final day of competition.
Truth be told, “the other half” of an SCCA Targa is where lifelong memories are made.
