Divisional Solo Championships Fuel Autocross Adventures and Increased Participation

Driving SCCA® autocrossers to cross Region lines is no easy task, but when done right, it gives drivers new scenery and increased competition, while offering the opportunity for Regions to gain new participants all season long. One concept, which some Regions have been either actively involved in or are freshly pursuing, is a season-long driver’s championship that casts a net across multiple Regions or even the entire Division, allowing drivers to expand their horizons in the name of #funwithcars.

“I was really happy with the success in 2025, which gave us something to grow on for 2026,” explains Ray Brake, Middle Georgia Region and Southeast Division’s Solo® Development Coordinator. “We awarded 16 jackets over seven different Regions within SEDiv last year, and had 65 competitors across all classes attend enough events to qualify.”

Last year, each participating Region with Southeast Division (SEDiv) identified two events as points earners for the SEDiv Solo Series. “This year, we have expanded it to three events [per Region] to make scheduling and travel to other Regions even easier for competitors,” Brake adds.

To qualify for the SEDiv Solo Series, drivers need to attend at least four events with no more than two being in any one particular Region – should a driver attend more, SEDiv uses their top four results. Drivers also need to attend at least one of the Tire Rack SCCA® Solo National Tours in the Southeast Division.

It didn’t take long for SEDiv’s Solo Series participation to grow, with Brake saying that early in the season, more than 100 drivers appear to be attempting to chase the points series in 2026.

Intra-Division autocross competition is nothing new, especially for Great Lakes Division. Created in 1985, GLDiv’s Divisional Solo Series counts the best six of nine events toward a driver’s score, although drivers need only participate in four events in order to earn a Divisional series trophy.

Midwest Division also has a Solo series, the Solo Performance Specialties/R&S Racing Midwest Division Solo Championship series, while Rocky Mountain Division’s Colorado and Continental Divide Regions have teamed up for a points championship.

Following in those footsteps is now the Northeast Division (NEDiv).

“It's been a while since NEDiv held a Divisional Solo event, so to address this gap, the Division is introducing the 2026 NEDiv Solo Series,” says Greg Vincent, the Steel Cities Region member who is heading up the endeavor.

“The series is open to drivers who are regular members of any NEDiv Region, so weekend members aren’t eligible,” Vincent explains. “To qualify for an award, drivers will have to attend more than half of the events in the series. If you attend more than the minimum, only your top more-than-half will be counted.”

For scoring, each class will use the PAX index, and all points must be earned in the same class. Points will be 1,000 for first place in each class, then subsequent positions will be based on the percentage of time to first place (so: first place time/your time x 1,000).

“Points will be calculated by the series organizer, meaning host Regions don't have extra work to do other than accommodating more drivers at their Divisional series event.” Vincent says.

This being the first year for NEDiv’s Solo Series, there are limited events. The first of the three scheduled NEDiv Divisional Solo series events took place on April 26, 2026, with a Washington DC Region event at Northwest Stadium in Landover, MD. The next two events take place in August, one on Aug. 9 with Central Pennsylvania Region at Mid-State Airport in Centre County, PA, and the final event on Aug. 23 with Finger Lakes Region at Seneca Army Depot in Romulus, NY.

“If other Regions are interested in hosting NEDiv Solo Series events, please email me at vincengf127@gmail.com,” says Vincent.
