If you like your weekends fast and fun, circle May 30-31, 2026, on your calendar because that weekend, Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows, CA, turns into a full-throttle playground, with the Tire Rack SCCA® Time Attack Challenge weekend delivering more than just lap times to chase – it’s packing bragging rights, good times, and a whole lot of action you never expected. So much action, in fact, that while we’re pretty sure it’s legal to jam in this much stuff, we’re not quite sure how it’ll all fit into one weekend.
The paddock will be buzzing about a lot. So much, in fact, that we’re going to have to break it down into sections.
Up first: Time Attack Challenge drivers will not only be contending for who’s fastest in each class, but who’s going to collect the special trophies.
Special Awards
At the Thunderhill Time Attack Challenge, there will be trophies waiting for the quickest Honda, the fastest BMW, the top dog among pony cars, the best Toyota 86/Scion FR-S (i.e.: the Twins), and – because no motorsports gathering is complete without them – the fastest Miata.
These come in addition to the usual class trophies and superlative awards.
In fact, all West Time Attack Challenge events will feature special trophies, so if you can’t make it to this event (be it because of a personal schedule conflict or that the event hit the 55 driver entry cap), there are Time Attack Challenges at Ridge Motorsports Park in August and Buttonwillow Raceway Park in November to consider.
Yet while motorsport is all about looking ahead, perhaps talking about August and November events is glancing at a corner too far. Right now, let’s see what the Thunderhill weekend has to offer as a driver, a passenger, and a spectator – because during the May 30-31 weekend, you’ll have the chance to do it all.
As a Driver: Time Attack Challenge & Track Day
The Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack Challenge will keep drivers on their toes by switching things up throughout the weekend. Running the West Track on Saturday and the East Track on Sunday, these two layouts offer unique challenges that double the opportunity to shine.
For the uninitiated, here’s a primer:
East Track
Thunderhill’s East Track is the classic that made this facility a legend. Boasting roughly three miles of rolling (ahem) thunder, the 15 turns you’re poised to face will challenge every aspect of your being. Some of these corners are blind, while others are flat-out screamers that require full commitment.
West Track
This one’s a relatively newer circuit that opened in 2014 to dramatically increase the facility’s offerings. And increase it did, as the West Track features more than a half dozen technical turns across two miles that require smooth hands and quick feet.
And Time Attack Challenge drivers (that’s you!) get to experience both in one weekend.
Yet that’s not the only opportunity people will have to drive Thunderhill.
On the East Track on Saturday will be an SCCA Track Day, offering on-track opportunities for those wanting to drive their own street car on track without the pressure of the clock.

As a Passenger: Lone Star Drift
The on-track action isn’t limited to Time Attack drivers chasing their perfect lap. The May 30-31 weekend is more like a motorsports festival than a single-series event.
Lone Star Drift will be throwing down on the small skid pad both days, offering ride-alongs that are equal parts thrill ride and smoke show.
If you’ve ever wanted to experience what it feels like to defy the concept of “forward,” this is your chance. They’ll also stretch their legs on the West Track before lunch and again at the end of Saturday, turning precision driving into a high-speed ballet of controlled chaos.
As a Spectator: GTA & Spec Racer Ford
On Saturday and Sunday, Global Time Attack (GTA) will be in full (ahem again) attack mode on the East Track, bringing some of the most dialed-in machines you’ll ever see. Expect a visual tour de force in aggressive, sculpted aero merged with lap times that’ll make your brain do a double take.
Also on the East Track both days will be the SCCA Spec Racer® Ford contingent, delivering wheel-to-wheel racing the way the racing gods intended it: tight, competitive, and impossible to predict. Identical machinery, different drivers, and a whole lot of determination always makes for some of the best racing of any weekend; Spec Racer Ford is an elbows-out battle you won’t want to miss.
Do it!
All told, the May 30-31, 2026, Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack Challenge weekend at Thunderhill Raceway Park isn’t just an event, it’s a motorsports smorgasbord with a side of tire smoke and a dessert of friendly rivalry.
Whether you come for the Time Attack Challenge, SCCA Track Day, GTA, drifting, door-to-door racing, or just the symphony of engines echoing across the valley, one thing’s guaranteed: it’ll be a weekend that moves fast and sticks with you long after the checkered flag falls.
