SCCA Targa is a blast – at this point, it’s a proven fact. Four days, four (or more) stops at motorsport facilities, transit challenges, and friends aplenty, SCCA Targas are can’t miss adventures that are fun whether you’re aiming for the win or are there for the LOLs. Or, both! One issue that’s arisen, however, is that people want to participate in SCCA Targas, but also insure their vehicles while on track. Since SCCA Targas are multi-day, multi-track, timed experiences, insuring your ride from on-track damage through companies like SCCA partner Hagerty can get pricy. Now, though, there’s a solution, and that is the Track Night in America Experience class offered at all 2026 SCCA Targa events.
First, what is SCCA Targa? The previous paragraph offers the gist, but your best bet to understanding what SCCA Targa truly is, is to read this first-hand participant testimony (written by me!) from the opening SCCA Targa of the 2025 season.
When I participated in that SCCA Targa, my teammate and I rolled the dice on car insurance. Pricing out Hagerty track day insurance for four timed events in one week was more than my teammate and I had in our budget, so we decided to risk it. This year, SCCA has introduced a class that makes getting that on-track coverage a viable option.
“The Track Night in America® Experience class, offered at all 2026 SCCA Targa events, is a non-timed class that allows teams to participate in everything an SCCA Targa event has to offer, while unlocking the ability to obtain discounted on-track insurance,” explains SCCA’s Vice President of Experiential Programs Heyward Wagner. “By bringing a Track Night in America class to SCCA Targa, participants can now access the 30% insurance discount Hagerty offers for Track Night events.
“SCCA Targa participants in the Track Night in America Experience class won’t have their on-track laps timed, but in SCCA Targa, that doesn’t detract from the event at all, because most event participants are there for the pure fun of it.”
All of this begs the question, what is Track Night? Launched in 2015, Track Night in America Driven by Tire Rack has become one of the most laid back and affordable opportunities there is to experience racetracks in no-pressure environments. With participants needing only a mechanically-sound street car and an approved helmet, the program offers access to roughly 30 tracks a year to people of any experience level, with event coaches on hand to ensure everyone has a good time.
A partnership between SCCA and Hagerty (SCCA’s official Insurance Partner) then brought about a program where Hagerty would offer a hefty discount for its on-track insurance specific to Track Night participants.
With the Track Night in America Experience class now being offered at SCCA Targa events, that 30% on-track insurance discount has been unlocked for those wishing to experience SCCA Targa AND Track Night during the same event.
“The new Track Night in America Experience class at SCCA Targa events truly is an awesome unlock code for those who’ve been hesitant to enter an SCCA Targa event because of the price of on-track insurance,” says SCCA’s Manager of National Time Trials John Hunter. “With this, we’ll see you at the next Targa!”
