SCCA National Convention is One Week Away: 5 Reasons Not to Miss It

Who attends the SCCA® National Convention?

The SCCA National Convention has occurred in some form or fashion since 1944. Yes indeed, the Sports Car Club of America™ was founded on Feb. 26, 1944, and by Dec. 16 of the same year, the membership held its first Annual Meeting, the precursor to the SCCA National Convention. That gathering saw seven Club members head to Boston for the event. Six years later, the Annual Meeting attracted 125 members, with 200 showing up for the evening’s dinner.

Last year’s virtual SCCA National Convention saw some 1,000 members attend, with a similar turnout expected during this year’s Jan. 15-23 virtual SCCA National Convention.

Be it 1944 or 2026, the answer to who attends the National Convention is: members like you looking to level up in the SCCA! Be they Region leaders, future Region leaders, drivers, or volunteers, the National Convention is for you.

When it comes to not attending the 2026 virtual SCCA National Convention, excuses are hard to come by. For starters, the event takes place online – there’s no traveling to Boston required like with the Club’s first gathering. Then the second huge reason you must attend is that it’s free for all SCCA members. That’s right – your SCCA membership card gets you in the virtual front door, no questions asked.

What are some of the other reasons to attend?

The Chance to Win Free Stuff

This shouldn’t be your number one reason to attend, but we’ll put it here in case it is: Everyone who registers for the SCCA National Convention prior to the first day of the Convention will have their name put in for a drawing for a Track Ready Kit from Shirts101. This kit contains a UPF tee, cap, sunglasses, and cinch pak (all SCCA branded).

Lyn St. James Will Be There

You read that right! THE Lyn St. James is the National Convention’s keynote speaker! From IndyCar to CART, Trans Am, 24 Hours of Daytona, Nürburgring, setting speed records, and more, Lyn’s racing resume is an enviable one – yet that’s not been her sole motorsports journey. Working to advance women in Motorsports, her passion has extended well beyond the driver’s seat. In fact, it was all of these items that earned her induction into the SCCA Hall of Fame in 2017.

Her keynote address is reason alone to attend the SCCA National Convention, but there’s more…

SCCA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

There’s no reason to belabor this, but you won’t want to miss the 2026 SCCA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. This year’s inductees include motorsports greats who have influenced not only the Club, but racing at large. This year, join us on Jan. 16 as we induct George Bovis, John Doonan, Don Knowles, Frank Schultheis, and Jerry Wannarka into the SCCA Hall of Fame.

Level Up with Friends

The SCCA National Convention has always been an education tool with sessions that run the gamut for every one of SCCA’s programs – beyond that, the Convention is a place where you can meet with likeminded members and grow with them. Heck, it’s part of why this year’s National Convention theme is Level Up.

Of the hundreds of attendees, you’ll undoubtedly recognize a few names. While the Convention is virtual, it’s also presented in a format that encourages participation and conversation. Rest assured, even if you don’t know anyone entering this year’s National Convention, you’ll call many of the other attendees friends by the end.

Unlimited Access Anywhere

The technical underpinning of the SCCA National Convention is the Whova app, so while you can attend the Convention on a desktop via a web browser, it’s highly recommended that you also download the app (available for Android and iPhone). Whova allows for easy access to an event schedule and event calendar that moves seamlessly between your computer and phone, enabling you to essentially assemble your own Convention, session by session, with Whova reminding you when it's time to tune in. Whether you’re on your phone or computer, you’ll never miss a session.
