Don’t know what the Solo Cup and Driver of Eminence awards are? Read on…

Solo Cup

The Solo Cup goes annually to the SCCA member who has made an outstanding contribution to the Solo Events Program – which often extends beyond success behind the wheel.

Past winners include Dave “Bugeye” Williams, Rocky Entriken, Kathy Barnes, Roger Johnson (both “real” and “H”), Bob Tunnell, the Berry family, and many, many more – it’s an incredible list of autocross examples to live by.

Last year’s winner of this award was Chicago Region’s Rick Ruth. Creator of the Racer’s Theoretical Performance (RTP) scale, Ruth has managed RTP data for more than 40 years. For more than two decades, he has maintained both the RTP and PAX autocross indexes, which are used by SCCA Region’s throughout the country. Moreover, for the last several years, Ruth has committed upwards of 30 hours a week to analyzing results so data remains correct and functional.

Driver of Eminence

The Driver of Eminence factors in the on-track portion of the event, going to the Solo driver who has consistently demonstrated excellence behind the wheel and an exemplary degree of sportsmanship, dedication, and selflessness.

Bill Goodale, Tommy Saunders, Andy McKee, Sam Strano, Jinx Jordan, Bartek Borowski, Jeff Kiesel, and Ron Bauer are just a handful of the names who have taken home the award since 1984.

In 2024, the Driver of Eminence honor went to Mark Scroggs of SCCA’s Phoenix Arizona Solo Region for his unwavering dedication to the sport. A former SEB Chairman and the 2014 Solo Rookie of the Year, Scroggs is well known for his kindness and comradery. He has trophied at nine of his previous Solo Nats appearances. That includes two Championships in C Street, two more in G Street, and another in D Street. On top of that, he has earned three Solo Triad awards.
