In the News: Southern WV Region Partners with College, Raises Money for Good Cause

A Regional SCCA® Autocross is fun – but what’s even better is when the host Region partners with a few other groups to turn an autocross into an event that raises money for a good cause. In early May, that’s exactly what SCCA’s Southern West Virginia Region did, and the results got the attention of the local news.

According to an article produced by The Parkersburg News and Sentinel, Washington State College of Ohio (WSCO) collaborated with Southern West Virginia Region to host an autocross and dyno day, with the Rollin’ Oldies Car Club of Parkersburg setting up a car show and local law enforcement hosting an inter-police driving competition.

“Dyno Days had an outstanding turnout and truly opened the doors for community engagement,” WSCO Automotive and Diesel Instructor Ryan Moore told the news agency. “It gave us the opportunity to proudly showcase the Automotive and Diesel programs here at WSCO, highlighting the hard work of our students and faculty. The students who assisted with the dyno demonstration came away even more inspired and excited about pursuing their careers in automotive and diesel technology.”

A $125 Dyno Day entry fee went to support the Dan Blake Automotive-Diesel Program Improvement Memorial Fund, which according to The Parkersburg News and Sentinel, supports program growth by helping with student initiatives, equipment upgrades, staff development, and facility enhancements.
