SCCA Runoffs Update: Formula X To Race on Saturday

Following an hourlong delay during the SCCA National Championship Runoffs at VIRginia International Raceway on Sept. 30, 2022, caused by an on-track oil spill and complicated by the remnants of hurricane Ian as it entered the area, SCCA race officials have determined that the Formula X race will move from Friday evening to 8 a.m. EDT on Saturday. All races previously scheduled for Saturday will still take place on Saturday, although race start times and time duration will be adjusted.

The new Runoffs race schedule for Saturday, Oct. 1, involves 15-lap or 35-minute races (whichever elapses first), reducing the maximum time allowance for each race by five minutes. In addition, race officials will target 15 minutes between each of the day’s 10 races, which is a five-minute reduction from the previously planned 20-minute race turnarounds.

Saturday’s new SCCA Runoffs schedule is as follows (listed as “class – time on course”):

Formula X – 8:00 a.m.
Touring 4 – 8:50 a.m.
GT-Lite – 9:40 a.m.
Formula Vee – 10:30 a.m.
Spec Miata – 11:20 a.m.
Lunch – 11:55 a.m.
B-Spec – 12:55 p.m.
Formula Atlantic – 1:45 p.m.
H Production – 2:35 p.m.
Prototype 1 – 3:25 p.m.
Touring 2 – 4:15 p.m.

The Runoffs race schedule for Sunday, Oct. 2, will remain unchanged.
