RoadRally’s 2021 Awards Rundown

RoadRally has been part of SCCA’s genetic makeup since the Club was formed more than 75 years ago. And for decades now, the RoadRally Board (RRB) notes exemplary efforts and awards those who make RoadRally such a wonderful activity. Below is a rundown of 2021 RoadRally accolades recently announced.

Robert V. Ridges Memorial Award

The highest honor within SCCA’s RoadRally Program, presented to a deserving candidate by the RRB to recognize an SCCA Member who has gone above and beyond, exemplifying the highest degree of dedication, achievement, sportsmanship, and personal sacrifice to the sport while also making an outstanding contribution to the success of an event.

The 2021 Robert V. Ridges Memorial Award winner is Bruce Gezon of SCCA’s Philadelphia Region. Gezon was picked by the RRB based on his decades of support to the RoadRally program as a competitor, Rallymaster, national champion, points keeper, helper, mentor, and contributor to RReNews.

Arthur J. Gervais National Course Rally of the Year

This award is presented annually in recognition of an outstanding National Course RoadRally. The selection is made by vote of the top 20 competitors in each class who have competed in at least three National Course Rally events that year. Prior to 1989, this award encompassed all National Rally occurrences within a year.

The 2021 Arthur J. Gervais National Course Rally of the Year honor went to Milwaukee Region’s Roads Scholar with Jim Crittenden as Rallymaster. It’s the fifth time this particular RoadRally has received this award.

David Teter National Tour Rally of the Year

This award is presented annually in recognition of the outstanding National Tour RoadRally. The selection is made by vote of the top 20 competitors in each class who have competed in at least three National Course Rally events that year.

The 2021 W. David Teter National Tour Rally of the Year award went to Milwaukee Region’s Roads Scamper with Jim Crittenden as Rallymaster.

The “Best New” National Rally Awards

Initiated in 1992, these awards can be presented in recognition of the “Best New” National Rally in each of three categories: Tour, Course and GTA. A new National Rally is defined as one that fits into some of the following criteria: 1) Utilizes a new concept or technology; 2) Presented by a region that has never organized a National Rally; 3) Presented by a region that has not organized a National Rally in the past 20 years; 4) Presented by a committee of senior members who have never organized a National Rally.

As selected by the National Events Committee, the 2021 winner of Best New National Tour Rally was Detroit Region’s Lazy Daze with Rallymaster Dennis Wiedbusch. And the 2021 winner for Best New National Course Rally was Texas Region’s ONTO Fall with Rallymaster Liz Witt.

Divisional RoadRally Achievement Award

Started in 1992, this award is presented in recognition of a division’s activities in RoadRally for a new or ongoing program. This may include events, promotions, attendance, innovation in public relations and more.

The RoadRally Board decided SCCA’s Central Division would receive the 2021 Divisional RoadRally Achievement Award. The Division was selected based on its very strong rebound from 2020 to 2021 in terms of events and entries.

Regional RoadRally Achievement Award

Initiated in 1993, this award is presented in recognition of a region’s activities in RoadRally for a new or ongoing program. This may include events, promotions, attendance, innovation in public relations, event participation and more.

The RoadRally Board selected San Diego Region to receive the 2021 Regional RoadRally Achievement Award. That Region was chosen based on its significant growth in events and entries from 2020 to 2021 in what is still considered a “young” program.

Congratulations to all the 2021 RoadRally award recipients.
