New Edition of RoadRally® Rules for Organizers Available for Download

A new edition of SCCA RoadRally’s Rules for Organizers (RFOs) is now available for download at scca.com!

The new edition--Edition 40--is the first revision of the document since 2014 and the first significant revision to the document in more than a decade.

The revision was requested by the SCCA’s RoadRally Board and completed in May by the board’s National Events Committee.

Unlike the SCCA’s RoadRally Rules (RRRs), which are revised annually, the RFOs are updated only as the need for revisions are determined by the RoadRally Board, explains National Events Committee co-chair Mike Thompson. Each edition remains in force until a subsequent edition is published.

“The RFOs have been around a long time, and they supplement the RRRs and interpret them for Regions and rally committees organizing National and Divisional events,” Thompson explains. “And while they do not apply to events sanctioned as Regional road rallies or as ‘Trek’ events, they offer a lot of practical how-to advice for almost anyone organizing a road rally.”

Among the updates incorporated into the new edition of the RFOs is advice on using GPS controls on road rallies and a guide to a “Virtual Organizer’s Packet” that replaces the former (and bulky) Organizer’s Packet that traditionally was mailed to all event chairs after a rally committee’s sanction application for a national championship event was approved.

“All of the Organizer’s Packet material is now online,” Thompson noted.
