2020 National Convention: One Team. One Experience.

“Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at 20 or 80,” is a quote attributed to Henry Ford. And while the Sports Car Club of America® is now 75 years old, the SCCA® certainly hasn’t stopped learning, especially when you look at all that will be taught and discussed during the 2020 SCCA National Convention going on the next couple days at South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

More than 100 helpful sessions, guided by no fewer than 90 presenters, will be conducted throughout 20 rooms covering 70,000 square feet of floor space. As always, Convention offers a great opportunity for Members, Region Leaders and Event Leadership to continue the pursuit of the Club’s collective Mission of delivering a safe, fun and exciting motorsports experience for enthusiasts -- a notion echoed in this year’s Convention theme: One Team. One Experience.

Convention provides SCCA leaders the prospect of focusing on how the Club can collectively and collaboratively impact member experience, program experience and leadership experience across 2020 and beyond. In short, concepts shared at Convention will fuel future SCCA growth by producing excellence as one team in pursuit of delivering a more unified enthusiast experience.

Chris Robbins, SCCA’s Region Development Director, helped cultivate topics for this year’s Convention and is again one of the featured facilitators. He noted that, as stewards of the Club, it is often way too easy and common for all involved to focus time and energy on how well an event is marketed and executed, without giving the same effort to how we care for our Members.

“The ‘process’ is important, but the ‘people’ are more important and should come first, which is why a portion of this year’s seminars are dedicated to that thought. ‘It all Starts with Respect” will be a session about ensuring the culture and reputation of the SCCA is protected. And the ‘Resolving Conflict’ seminar will provide tools and tips for successfully dealing with the inevitable situations that happen when people work and play together. And for good measure, we’ve included a presentation entitled ‘Demystifying the SCCA’ designed to humanize the National Office.”

Beyond leadership and region development training, there will be plenty of sessions about autocross, marketing, RallyCross, Road Racing, Road Rally, Time Trials, Track Night in America, SCCA Foundation and more. And capping it all off is a special Tire Rack Street Survival Summit taking place on Sunday.
