Track Night in America: Fun for Everyone

Who is the target audience for Track Night in America driven by Tire Rack?

It’s like we keep saying: Track Night is for everyone!

Take Ed Forer, for example. Ed has been an SCCA member since 2013, and runs a number of two-wheeled track days. But he had to get rid of his race car at the end of the 2015, and thought it would be a long time before he would end up on track again.

Enter Track Night. Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park is just up the road from his home in West Warwick, Rhode Island, and this June’s event was an opportunity to make it to the track.

Oh, and bring his father along.

“My dad and I share a MINI,” Forer said. “He runs in intermediate, I run in advanced and we have a blast. Track Night has been a great thing for us. I had to sell my race car at the end of the 2015 season and I thought it would be a long time before I would get back on a track on four wheels.

“Track Night gives me the chance to drive, spend awesome quality time with my dad and decompress in the middle of the week. This is the type of grass roots activity the SCCA had needed for a long time.”

So, equipped with a MINI Cooper upgraded with brake pads, stickier tires and fatter rear sway bar, Ed and his 75-year-old father, Stuart, enjoyed family night.

“It's been a great thing for us as our racing hobbies have taken us in different directions,” Ed said. “He still races vintage cars, but we haven't had a chance to drive together at the same event in almost 20 years!”

The Track Night event has even rekindled the passion that Ed, the CEO at READ Display, had for racing – in a way that even he was surprised about.

“It's fun passing Porsche turbos in the little MINI,” Ed joked. “This has actually motivated me to look at some of the lower cost, production-based Club Racing classes which I had previously turned my nose up at, because I wanted to drive formula cars or sports racers.”
