Blue Mountain Region Paves Way

The SCCA’s Blue Mountain Region, which organizes Reading Hillclimbs in Pennsylvania, got a pat on the back recently for some good work they’re doing in their community.

According to the Reading Eagle newspaper, BMR has taken part of the profits from annual hillclimbs and used the money to repave an 800-foot roadside path in town.  Rich Rock, hillclimb chairman for BMR, said a portion of that strip is regularly used for pit stops during hillclimbs.

“We know the city faces challenges with money and manpower,” Rock said in the newspaper article.  “We are happy to use some of our profits to give back.”

Ralph Johnson, director of public works for Reading, said the pathway being fixed is frequently used by students to reach a local intermediate high school and the renovation will make the area safer for pedestrians.

But this is most certainly not the first time the BMR has chipped in to improve the city.  According to the newspaper, the Club has “funded several projects: repaving a portion of Skyline Drive, working with the nonprofit Pagoda Skyline Inc. to place a new flagpole at the pagoda, and helping to improve the clearing of brush and trees near the pagoda to improve sight line and the safety of visitors.  The Club also holds cleanups annually in April, June and August to clear trash and debris from along Skyline Drive.”

Good on ya, BMR.  And if you’re in the area, check out the Club’s Duryea Hillclimb on Aug. 20-21 in Reading, Pennsylvania.
