First Timer's Perspective on Match Tours

SCCA knows Kenton Koch from his 2014 Battery Tender Mazda MX-5 Cup Championship. In the year that followed, he claimed a dominating championship in the Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Powered by Mazda. He then went on early in 2016 to win at the Rolex 24 Hour at Daytona. Now, he’s back to SCCA and giving autocross a try.

Koch decided to buy a new car specifically for autocross and see what he could do in a sport he admittedly had very little experience in. His first event: The Tire Rack Match Tour in San Diego, CA. He managed a 2nd place finish in C Street with his 2004 Mazda RX-8 to Ron Bauer in a brand new Mazda Motorsports developed 2016 Mazda MX-5.

More importantly, Koch shared his experience at the Match Tour with MazdaMotorsports.com through a Two Part article. Read Part One about prepping his Mazda RX-8 here. Read about the things he brought and wished he’d brought here.

Additionally, Mazda Business Development Manager, David Cook, was at the event. He shared his Match Tour experience here.
