At A Glance: Road Atlanta Majors This Weekend

Could be a Wet One – Weather forecasters are already predicting rain at some point this weekend with temperatures in the upper 50s or lower 60s. Best chance for rain seems to be Saturday. What might wet racing do to the Southeast Conference Championship Point standings? We’ll have to watch and see.

Runoffs Champions – Studying the event registration list shows a number of former Runoffs National Champions are planning to make an appearance at Road Atlanta this weekend. The list includes: Scott Rettich (SRF), Cliff White (SRF), Andrew Charbonneau (SRF3), Brian Schofield (SRF3), Lee Alexander (SM/FA), Jim Drago (SM), Jonathan Goring (SM), Sam Halkias (EP), Ed Zabinski (EP), Peter Shadowen (GTL), Marty Grand (T2), Stevan Davis (FV), Gianpaolo Ciancimino (FA/P2), Keith Grant (FA), Pete Peterson (GT-2), Tom Patton (GT-2) and Brandon Dixon (FC).

Switch it Up – Another former SCCA Runoffs Champ, Kevin Ruck, is switching things up for Road Atlanta. Ruck, who is also a multi-time winner of the America Road Race of Champions, is rumored to have switched his IT car to STL specifications for Road Atlanta. He’ll also be competing for a win in FP this weekend.

Volunteering Just Peachy in Atlanta – More than 100 SCCA members have stepped up to volunteer their time and expertise this weekend at Road Atlanta for the Southeast Conference SCCA U.S. Majors Tour. That’s some pretty impressive Southern hospitality because SCCA is a membership organization and, as such, utilizes volunteers to put on events. These saints organize, register, score, officiate and work flag stations during race weekends. No event is possible without the help of these dedicated volunteers.
