Second-Annual SCCA Beat the Boss Charity Foot Race Set for Runoffs

TOPEKA, Kan. (Aug. 4, 2010) €“ After a successful inaugural event in 2009 that raised more than $1,000 for the SCCA Foundation, SCCA President & CEO Jeff Dahnert has announced that he will once again host the €œBeat the Boss€ four-mile run around Road America Sept. 22 during the 2010 SCCA National Championship Runoffs Presented by Subway.Last year, SCCA resurrected the €œBeat the Boss€ challenge€”which was initially a chance for racers across the country to race against former Club President Nick Craw in the late €˜80s and early €˜90s. Proceeds from the current rendition of the challenge go directly to the SCCA Foundation, which supports the Tire Rack Street Survival teen safe driving program.€œWe had more than 40 participants last year and we hope to eclipse that in 2010,€ Dahnert said. €œWe have moved the run from Friday to Wednesday, with the hope that more people will have the opportunity to participate with it not being a race day.€In 2009, eight runners beat Dahnert around the four-mile, undulating Road America circuit.€œI was not at all surprised by the number of excellent runners there were in the 2009 event, and I was not at all surprised that there were some faster than me,€ Dahnert said. €œLike any racer, though, I do have some good excuses as to why [SCCA Enterprises President] Erik Skirmants beat me and I€™m not about to let that happen two years in-a-row!€All competitive kidding aside, Dahnert encourages anyone to come out and participate.€œWhether you€™re out there to race to win, reach a personal goal or even just join us for half of the course and stop at Turn Five, it€™s a fun opportunity for people to see the track from a different perspective,€ he said. €œAnd, it supports a good cause.€ Anyone who finishes the run ahead of Dahnert will receive a special prize commemorating the accomplishment. To pre-register for the run, please see the link on the Runoffs home page at www.scca.com/runoffs.The 2010 SCCA National Championship Runoffs Presented by Subway begins with qualifying Monday, Sept. 20 through Thursday, Sept. 23, followed by three full days of racing, Sept. 24-26 at Road America.
