COLLEGE STATION, Texas (March 6, 2011) - Six Sports Car Club of America run groups turned qualifying times on Sunday morning at Texas World Speedway, giving 28 drivers their respective class pole positions in the inaugural BFGoodrich Tires SCCA Super Tour event. All 28 classes, in six groups, will race on Sunday afternoon. Part of the Texas Two Step Double National hosted by the Lone Star Region, the Super Tour event comprises the Sunday portion of the action. In addition to points toward the BFGoodrich Tires Super Tour standings, Sundays races also count in the SCCA National Point Championship as part of the SCCA SafeRacer National Series. In the opening 20-minute session, Jacek Mucha took the overall pole and the pole for C Sports Racing with a 1:36.528 (108.155 mph) around the 2.9-mile track. Mucha, of Laval, Quebec, turned his best lap in a Swift. Also earning class pole positions in Group One was David Burkett, of Corpus Christie, Texas, in his Formula 1000 Rfr 09; Scott McQueen, of Huffman, Texas, in SCCA Formula Enterprises; defending class National Champion Darryl Wills, of Deer Park, Texas, in Formula Mazda; Dwight Rider, of Aurora, Colo., driving a Van Diemen VD01 in Formula Continental; Gregory Byrne, of Southlake, Texas, driving Mazda Pro Formula 2004 in Formula Atlantic; Jim Rawson, of Houston, in a Stohr 01D in D Sports Racing; and Jack Donnellan, of Chickashaw, Ok., in a Lola 598 in Sports 2000. Group Two featured 23 Spec Racer Ford machines, with Rick Bellew, of Mobile, Ala., earning the top spot with a best time of 1:54.603 (91.097 mph). Bellew will open Sunday afternoons race alongside Denny Stripling, of McKinney, Texas. Austin Snader, of Brookshire, Texas, set a new E Production track record with a qualifying lap of 1:51.774 (93.403 mph) in a Mazda RX-8 to claim the top overall time in Group Three. Stuart Robinson, in an F Production Mazda Miata, followed overall and topped his class. Luis Rivera, of Angleton, Texas, led GT-Lite in a Mazda Miata, while Toby Grahovec, of Chicago, Ill., topped STU in a BMW 330. James Rogerson, of Pearland, Texas, led H Production in a Honda Civic S, while Grandburys Richard Dickey topped Showroom Stock C in a Chevy Cobalt. Randy Acock, of Robstown, Texas, was the quickest Formula Ford around Texas World Speedway, topping Group 4 in his Van Dieman RF-98 with a best time of 1:46.967 (97.600 mph). CJ McAbee, of Topeka, Kan., topped Formula 500 and was third overall in a KBS Cyclone; Charles Hearn, of Houston, topped Formula Vee in a FV Vortech. The largest group of the weekend, Spec Miata, solely comprised Group Five. Blake Clements, of Sealy, Texas, topped all 40 Miatas with a best lap of 1:58.558 (88.058 mph) during the qualifying session. Clements will start alongside Matt Reynolds, of Fair Oaks Ranch. David Fershstand, of Fort Worth, Texas, topped Group Six in an Oldsmobile Cutlass from the GT-1 class with a fast lap of 1:42.051 (102.302 mph). Also topping their respective classes in the session were Kerry Bonner, of Katy, Texas, in a GT-3 class Ford Probe; Houstons Eric Galerne in an STO Dodge Viper ACRX; Charles Vehle, of Washington, Texas, in a Touring 2 Class BMW M3; David Koller, from The Woodlands, Texas, in a Touring 1 Corvette; JF McClughan (T3 Mazda) and Eric Ritchie (American Sedan Pontiac Firebird); and Toby Garhovec in a Showroom Stock B BMW Z4.
