CHANTILLY, Va. (April 7, 2011) - The Club Racing Stewards Program held its inaugural Ground School in Chantilly, Va., April 2-3. The school is designed to bring new Stewards-in-Training (SITs) up to speed faster than had been possible in the past. The two days of intensive work give new stewards the groundwork they need before doing on-the-job training at events. Successful candidates will earn their stewards license much more quickly than the two years that has been the norm. SITs from GLDiv, NEDiv, and SEDiv attended the school. Reaction from students was very positive. Chief Instructor Tom Hoffman was instrumental in developing the school, which combines lectures, practical work, and reference materials. Im excited about the impact the Ground School will have on our stewards program, David Nokes, Chairman of the Stewards Program, said. By offering well qualified SITs a fast track to becoming contributing members of our team, I expect we will attract the next generation of excellent SCCA stewards. In light of the age demographics of SCCA stewards, this is a critical issue. We should thank the BoD for their support of the Ground Schools, which is essential for this programs success. Based on the positive response from participants, the Stewards Program plans to stage more Ground Schools across the country.
