LEXINGTON, Ohio (June 11, 2011) Three of the six grids were set on Saturday for Sundays fifth BFGoodrich Tires Super Tour race weekend, part of the Ohio Valley Region/Cincinnati Region SCCA Race of Champions double national at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Scott Rettich was the first to earn a pole for Sundays Super Tour, completing the 15-turn, 2.4-mile circuit in 1:40.356 in the first of two qualifying sessions in the No. 17 Alliance Autosport/Springboro Car Wash/PDI Spec Racer Ford. Also in Group 2, Kyle Webb earned Sundays Spec Miata pole in the No. 99 Kiss my Grass/Pressure Connections Mazda Miata. Tony Rivera earned the Touring 2 pole in Group 2, driving the No. 11 Brass Monkey Racing/Nissan/Hoosier Nissan 370Z, with a time of 1:38.787. Group 2 poles also went to Kevin Helms (No. 04 HRE Wheels/Carbotech/Exedy Acura RSX) in STU, Jeremy Lucas (No. 8 BFGoodrich/Honda Racing Line Honda S2000) in Touring 3, Michael Scornavacchi (No. 25 Hoosier/Phoenex/Carbotech/Lawrence Chevrolet Pontiac Solstice) in Showroom Stock B, and Mark McCaughey (No. 18 Hoosier Tire/Carbotech/TRD Toyota Celica) in Showroom Stock C. Group 3s overall pole went to Timothy Wise (No. 42 Leisure Hound Sports Swift DB6 Ford) in the Formula F class with a best time of 1:33.822, set in the first qualifying session. Aaron Ellis (No. 43 Carlisle/CFF/Ellis Motorsports Ellis AE06) earned the Formula 500 pole, with Jeff Loughead (No. 8 Hoosier Tire/LL Loughead DDS Vortech CR04) taking the top honors in Formula Vee. Three race groups held their first of two qualifying sessions on Friday afternoon and will complete qualifying on Sunday morning. In Group Four, Amy Ruman topped GT-1 qualifying in her No. 23 McNichols/Goodyear/Cenweld Chevrolet Corvette with a best lap of 1:26.656 (99.705 mph). Tom Patton topped GT-2 in his No. 50 Tire Discounters/RedLine Oil/Goodyear Sunbeam Tiger, turning a lap of 1:32.390 (93.517 mph), while Mike Cypherts No. 76 Toyota Motorsports/TRD/RedLine Oil Toyota Celica topped GT-3 with a time of 1:34.673 (91.262 mph). Also leading the class in Group Four was David Pintarics No. 40 Kryder Racing/Carbotech/Hoosier Dodge Viper ACRX, John Buttermores Hoosier/Carbotech/Stoptech Chevrolet Corvette in Touring 1, and Tom Sloes No. 7 Hooiser Tire/Russell Automotive Center Ford Mustang in American Sedan. All of the Group 4 polesitters except for Michigan-native Buttermore are in their home state this weekend. In the wings and things Group 5, Keith Grant turned the fastest time of the qualifying to take the Formula Atlantic provisional pole in his No. 40 Hoosier Race Tire Swift 014a/Toyota with a lap of 1:21.913. Will Haney (D Sports Racing No. 8 Jay Motorsports Stohr WF1), Brandon Dixon (Formula 1000 No. 7 Citation Engineering/Hoosier Tire Citation F1000), Jonathan Gore (C Sports Racing No. 14 Foretravel Motorcoaches Elan DP-02), Rettich (Formula Enterprises No. 17 Alliance Autosport/Springboro Car Wash/PDI Formula Enterprises/Mazda), Steve Jenks (Formula Mazda No. High Impact Country Star Formula Mazda), John LaRue (Formula Continental No. 77 Goodyear Citation Snipe) and John Fergus (Sports 2000 No. 00 Hoosier Tires/Carbotech Brakes Carbir CS2) all turned best-in-class times in a busy group. Production cars comprised Group 6, with John Schmitt turning the overall fastest time in his No. 62 Hoosier/RedLine Honda Prelude for E Production with a best time of 1:38.801 (87.449 mph). Kevin Ruck, driving the No. 3 Hoosier/Honda Performance Development Acura Integra, topped the F Production class during the session, while James Rogerson (No. 7 MSR Houston/Over 50 Motorsports Honda Civic led H Production. Also in Group 6, Robert Lentz II topped GT-Lite behind the wheel of the No. 60 FGR/Auto Expectations/Goodyear Nissan Sentra SER. All six groups held the first of two SafeRacer National Series races on Saturday. In Group 1, Rettich topped SRF by 19.4 seconds, setting a new track record with a best time of 1:39.335 (86.978 mph). Daniel Ruggiero won Spec Miata in a three way battle with Harry Manning and John Scheuing. In Group 2, Bill Baten (No. 98 Hoosier/Marks ADR/VanWinkle Baten Chevrolet Camaro) won Touring 2 by 1.205-seconds, Kevin Helms (No. 04 HRE Wheels/Carbotech/Exedy Acura RSX) set a new track record with a time of 1:41.169 on his way to a STU class win, and Lucas won T3 and set a new lap record in a time of 1:41.678. Scornavacchi won in SSB and set a Mid-Ohio record with a time of 1:45.363, while McCaughey won in SSC. Tony Rivera (No. 11 Brass Monkey Racing/Nissan/Hoosier Nissan 370Z)earned the T2 track record in a time of 1:40.465 on his way to a fourth place finish after starting at the rear of the field. Russell Ruedisueli (No. 20 Goodyear Tires/Williams Engines Van Diemen RF-99) won overall in Group 3 and in the Formula F class. Also taking Group 3 wins were Ellis in Formula 500 and Loughead in Formula Vee. In addition to provisional poles, Ruman, Patton, Pintaric, Buttormore and Sloe all took wins in Saturdays Group 4 race. Paul Young (No. 79 Young Racing/Hoosier Tire Ford Probe) took the GT-3 class victory. Ruman (1:26.514) and Buttmore (1:35.210) both turned times quicker than the previous track record. David Grant (No. 12 Swift 014/Toyota) topped brother Keith in Saturdays Group 5 race in Formula Atlantic and overall, setting a new track record of 1:20.214. Haney, Gore, Rettich, LaRue and Fergus earned their respective class wins on Saturday, as did FBs Brian Novak (No. 88 Dude Vodka/Hoosier Tire/NovaRace Piper F1000) and FMs Juan Marchand (No. 10 Hoosier/TeamStradale/Gingerman/JRM Star Formula Mazda). Justin Pritchard (No. 1 Carriage & Motor Works/Hoosier Tire Mazda RX-7) topped Group 6 and the EP class, while Ruck, Lentz and Rogerson all earned Saturday wins in their class.
