LEXINGTON, Ohio (June 12, 2011) Capping a busy double national race weekend at the Ohio Valley Region/Cincinnati Region SCCA Race of Champions, six race groups completed the fifth round of the BFGoodrich Tires SCCA Super Tour on Sunday at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. The BFGoodrich Tires Great Lakes Super Tour featured 191 cars on the 15-turn, 2.4-mile permanent road course in north-central Ohio. Among the highlights was a spirited battle for the Touring 3 win between a pair of nearly identical cars. Frank Levinson, from Dayton, Ohio, started fourth in class and six overall positions behind class polesitter Jeremy Lucas. Levinsons No. 15 Colletti Motorsports Honda S2000 worked through traffic and pulled to the tail of the No. 8 BFGoodrich/Honda Racing Line Honda S2000 of Lucas. Levinson took several looks at getting by Lucas, and finally made the pass for the lead on lap 17 of 19. Levinson held on for a 0.326-second margin of victory, setting a new track record of 1:41.506 in the process. Elsewhere in that Group 2 race, Tony Rivera, from Angleton, Texas, won overall and in the Touring 2 class. Rivera pulled away from the field at the start in his No. 11 Brass Monkey Racing/Nissan/Hoosier Nissan 370Z, including breaking his own track record with a time of 1:38.448. Kevin Helms (No. 04 HRE Wheels/Carbotech/Exedy/dba Acura RSX) won in STU, Michael Scornavacchi (No. 25 Hoosier/Phoenix/Carbotech/Lawrence Chevrolet Pontiac Solstice) set a new track record of 1:44.415 on his way to a Showroom Stock B win, and Joel Lipperini (No. 81 Honda Civic) earned the win in Showroom Stock C. The morning started with two Group 1 walk away wins in traditionally close spec classes. Scott Rettich, from Camden, Ohio, won Spec Racer Ford by 2.426-seconds in his No. 17 Alliance Autosport/Springboro Car Wash Spec Racer Ford and was never seriously challenged. In Spec Miata, David Bednarz, from Ann Arbor, Mich., raced his No. 68 Dynomax Exhaust Mazda Miata to a 9.653-second win. Aaron Ellis, from Farmington, Minn., drove his Formula 500-winning No. 43 Carlisle/CFF/Ellis Motorsports Ellis AE06/Rotax past the faster qualifying Formula F machines and into an overall win in Group 3. Russell Ruedesueli, from Rochester, Mich., earned the FF win in his No. 20 Goodyear Tires/Williams Engines Van Diemen RF-99/Ford. Michael Varacins, from Burlington, Wis., drove his No. 65 Speed Sport/Veetech/Hoosier Speed Sport AM-5/VW to a 10.44-second margin of victory in Formula Vee. Group 4 featured the ground pounders and American iron, with Amy Ruman nearly lapping the entire field in her No. 23 McNichols/Goodyear/Cenweld Chevrolet Corvette for the GT-1 class win. Ruman, an SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am podium finisher, also set a new track record with a fast lap of 1:26.478. Track records fell throughout Group 4. David Pintaric, from Canfield, Ohio, topped Super Touring Over, setting a new track record of 1:33.906 in his Kryderacing/Carbotech/Hoosier Dodge Viper ACRX. John Buttermore, from Bloomfield Hills, Mich., topped T1 with a record lap of 1:34.611 in the No. 5 Hoosier/Carbotech/Stoptech Chevrolet Corvette. Mike Cyphert, from Twinsburg, Ohio, set the GT-3 track record in the No. 76 Toyota Motorsports/TRD/Red Line Oil/Goodyear Toyota Celica with a time of 1:34.246. Joseph Trapani, from Dushore, Pa., won American Sedan in the No. 9 Trapani Suspensions/Clark Racing Engines Chevrolet IROC after leader Tom Sloes No. 7 Hoosier Tire/Russell Automotive Center Ford Mustang fell out of the race with just one lap remaining. Group 5 featured nine different classes, including the faster open-wheel and sports racing machines. David Grant, from Germantown, Tenn., won overall and in Formula Atlantic, setting a new class record with a time of 1:19.943 in his No. 12 Swift 014/Toyota. In D Sports Racing, Will Haney, of Potomac, Md., lapped the course in 1:22.029 behind the wheel of his No. 8 Jay Motorsports Stohr WF1 on his way to a class win and a track record. Rettich earned his second win of the day with a new track record in Formula Enterprises behind the wheel of the No. 17 Alliance Autosports/Springboro Car Wash Formula Enterprises Mazda. Jonathan Gore (No. 14 Foretravel Motorcoaches Elan DP-02) earned the C Sports Racing win, Brian Novak (No. 88 Dude Vodka/Hoosier Tire/NovaRace Piper F1000) won in Formula 1000, and Chuck Moran (No. 44 Van Dieman RF99 Ford) took victory in Formula Continental. Steve Jenks (No. 68 High Impact Company Formula Mazda) won the Formula Mazda race and John Fergus (No. 00 Hoosier Tires/Carbotech Brakes Carbir CS2) won in Sports 2000 in the busy group. Group 6 featured Production cars and the GT-Lite class. In E Production, Justin Pritchard, from Granville, Ohio, took a win at his hometown track in the No. 1 Carriage & Motorworks/Hoosier Tire Mazda RX-7, starting on pole and leading flag-to-flag for the win. Defending F Production National Champion Kevin Ruck, from Delaware, Ohio, lowered the track record he sat on Saturday in his No. 3 Hoosier/Honda Performance Development Acura Integra to a 1:38.518 on his way to a class win. James Rogerson, from Pearland, Texas, battled all race long with Matt Brannon in H Production, before Rogerson earned the win in the No. 66 MSR Houston/Over 50 Racing Honda Civic. Brian Downey passed Robert Lentz late in the race to take the GTL title in his No. 63 FGR/Auto Expectations Nissan 200.
