SCCA Enterprises Announces Creation Of Rookie Of The Year Award

CENTENNIAL, COLO. (June 27, 2011) €“ SCCA Enterprises Inc. is excited to announce the creation of the SCCA Enterprises Rookie of the Year award. An annual prize, the award will honor the brightest new talent within the Spec Racer Ford and Formula Enterprises ranks. Given SCCA Enterprises has sold more than 1000 cars over the pat 20 years, it should come as no surprise that the Spec Racer Ford and Formula Enterprises classes have helped launch the career (both amateur and pro) of hundreds of racers. With that in mind, the Colorado-based organization has decided to start honoring those who are just beginning to make their mark in motorsports. Beginning in 2011, SCCA Enterprises will present a Rookie of the Year award to one driver from the SRF and FE ranks. €œWith a proud history of great drivers who have enjoyed the SCCA Enterprises Spec Racer Ford or Formula Enterprises cars as part of their motorsports careers, we feel it is time to honor the top new racer in our esteemed ranks,€ stated SCCA Enterprises President & CEO Erik Skirmants. While on-track results and success will be a major factor, off-track character and the ability of the racer to be a great ambassador for SCCA Enterprises in the future will also be taken into consideration. Open to Spec Racer Ford and Formula Enterprises racers in SCCA National, Regional or pro competition, SCCA Enterprises will announce the winner of the annual Rookie of the Year award following input from the Spec Racer Ford and Formula Enterprises Customer Service Representatives, the media, and racers. €œI look forward presenting the SCCA Enterprises Rookie of the Year award to a talented racer, both in and out of the driver€™s seat,€ added Skirmants. €œI€™m sure there will be multiple worthy candidates come the end of the season.€ Over the years, both the Spec Racer Ford and Formula Enterprises classes have featured a vast array of talented drivers battling for race wins and championship titles. Among those who have made mark in Spec Racer are seven-time SCCA National Champion and five-time pro champion Warren Stillwell, seven-time National Champion (Spec Racer & Shelby Can-Am) and two-time pro champion Mike Davies, four-time National Champion Mike Miserendino, two-time National Champion and pro champion Scott Lagasse, two-time National Champion Richard Spicer, National Champion and pro champion Keith Scharf, pro champions James Goughary Jr., John Strickler, Jack Willes, and Scott Rettich, and National Champions John Black, Joe Colassaco, and Brian Schofield. In the FE ranks drivers of note include two-time pro champion Jeremy Treadway, pro champions Elivan Gouliart, and Sean Rayhall, and National Champions Mark Eaton, Nick Evans and Scott Rettich. The Spec Racer Ford is an enclosed-wheel, open cockpit, purpose-built race car powered by a 1.9-liter Ford engine. The class recently celebrated its 25th anniversary of competition, with over 860 cars sold. The Formula Enterprises car is a single-design, open-wheel car powered by a 2.3-liter Mazda engine. An ideal step in the junior formula car ladder, over 120 cars have already been sold. Both cars are designed and produced by SCCA Enterprises, and were created with the intention of providing fun and competitive racing at an affordable price. The inaugural SCCA Enterprises Rookie of the Year award will presented following the conclusion of the full 2011 race season.
